Tornadic Weather Hits Loreauville
Dozens of residents in Loreauville are cleaning up tonight after tornadic weather swept through the area. Cleco crews worked for several hours to restore power.
Many residents are counting their blessings.Under an ominous sky, dozens of residents on Cajun Drive in Loreauville are boarding up and trying to salvage what they can. Around 6:00 Thursday morning, residents heard strong wind and rain whipping in every direction.
"It sounded like things were hitting the windows and the house. It was just scary," said Kennedy Williams.
In minutes, the storm strengthened making for tense moments.
"My mom screamed, "Get in the bathroom now!" I started freaking out and we all just bundled up. We started praying," said Kamryn Bourque.
As the strom barreled through, roofs, siding and any other object in it's path didn't fare well.
"We had family pictures and other things in our shed and it's all gone, so is our carport," said Williams.
A similar scene for other neighbors still shaken up.
"The trailer just started to shake and the noise. There was a real sucking, gurgling noise. It's hard to explain, but I've never heard that before."
Tonya Dupre and her family have lived in their home for 16 years. They've made it through hurricanes but say this is something you can't prepare for.
"We were just lucky that it wasn't worse than what it was."
