Also, Penn State is probably his dream job as he is finally back home.
He was born in Altoona, which is 45 minutes from State College.

it isn't a great consolation probably, but UL losing a coordinator to the same job for the defending national champion is a sign of progress.

He would be a position coach, not a coordinator. Per the reports.

I went through some serious groaning pains last year with the "8 guys lost in space" defense. There is no defense, regardless of complexity, that won't instantly improve on that "scheme". Hopefully, whatever player personnel issue that led to the use of that "scheme" will or has been addressed. But, we will be radically better next year, defensively, just by playing assignment football and obliterating the false belief that 8 people occupying space downfield in random circling patterns is acceptable because it supposedly prevents "the big play".

Oddly, we lined up tight on Tulane, pass rushed, pressured, and played assignment football the majority of that game. It was a good decision. And even the two big pass plays (hail marys) that we goofed up, we had the QB on the run, and we had guys all over the receivers. They just had small timing issues with how to read the WR for signs that the pill's arriving.

Another thing about Brent Pry is that he was in the final 4 for being head coach at Georgia Southern and withdrew his name (most likely because he knew James Franklin would take the job at Penn State and bring him along).

So, I doubt he would be interested in being DC for a school within the same conference where he could have been the Head Coach.

There still is growing pains between coach and personnel, terminology, schemes and philosophy. Anytime you are trying to teach a bunch of young guys something new...there will be growing pains. We are a month fr spring practice and have already started workouts. I hope HUD has known this for a little while and just kept it quiet until signing day. Hopefully he already has an idea of the replacement.

Outside of leaving for the BCS champs. I question how much control Hud gives his DC. Both have had great resumes on arrival and while with us we question the scheme each week.

I may be completly off base, but it is just a thought.
