He was fired because we gave up 280 yards passing per game for two straight years and defensive ineptness clearly cost us during this year a couple of times and could have cost us against WKU and Troy. For the first half of the year, we got no pressure on the QB and had few sacks and couldn't stop a runny nose. Clearly something had to be done. Besides the statistical realm, Hud was clearly frustrated with the playcalling and scheme in many of those games and my take from his comments was that Stewart was not always in agreement with him on what should be done or what changes should be made. If he was, there would have been little frustration shown by Hud in the media. I think there was likely some differences in philosophy there and the move is beyond just the numbers...
Change is not always a bad thing. Have some of you learned nothing since the changing of the Bustle to HUD era? Hud wants to go in a different direction. Ever since he has been at the helm, I love the direction he has taken the program. I love his hunger for success.
Clutch, no offense here as you've been a good contributor to this board for some time but I could care less what a few guys in Carencro think of Guidry. Like VO said, can he coach defense and I think he's proven that. I don't know the man but he's been successful enough at the stops he's been at to garner some interest and if Hud likes him, I'm on board.
No! Hud has not earned the right to make decisions regarding his staff! As far as I'm concerned, Hud is still on probation. He had better walk a fine line and keep his nose clean. I'm not very impressed with this cat's results to-date. How he can be allowed to decide who's on his staff or not... is just ridiculous!
Gregg Williams... Blitz every play!
None taken...with the things I have heard and seen of him I don't think he would be good for our program. He might be able to coach the defense but I don't think he will recruit as well as some think. If Hud wants him, I stand behind the hire but that does not stop me from voicing an opinion about it now.

Hud is dramatically different than most breeds we've seen. That is precisely why he was able to immediately step change our program in a positive direction. He's not just a methodical winner. He's a rocket launch pad for anything that he can get his arms around. If he thinks you're even the slightest amount of dead weight on that launch, he's going to cut you loose.
Staff that know that, may have it in themselves to step up their game. Staff that don't have it are going to get cut. We know we have a winner in Hud. We now know he doesn't just want to win "something"... he wants to win "everything".
We can only hope that having a guy with Hud's passion for success, coupled with what appears to be good moral grounding, can become infectious at UL. As our administration looks for consultants for various objectives at UL, I hope they look no further than Mark Hudspeth for leadership skills.
UL needs to make use of Mark Hudspeth while he's in our employment. I sure hope our administration realizes what this window of opportunity could do for us. Hudspeth isn't slow-boating the advancement of his life. UL could learn something from that.

Good post....HUD access the season and found the weak spot and is doing something about it! I am sure it came as a surprise to most, likely because UL has never really seen something like this, but I like it....
At no time did I give anyone except HUD credit for the change.
I respectfully decline......Can't pitch 13 shutouts in a year. A player or 2 with all the great talent that UL gets, might make a couple of HUMAN mistakes with Alignment,Assignment,or simply Tackling, and I will be let go.Not to mention, the HUMAN mistakes I would make, which we all know would be multiple.
The advantadge of football is now in the offense's favor. If you can't stop anyone, then WIN Time of Possession and don't turn the ball over. And DEFINITELY WIN the SPECIAL TEAMS !
