Just because the other team also missed free throws doesn't mean I will overlook it as a problem. I/we can only address our problems and issues...and we cannot depend on our opponent to help us by making the same mistakes.

Exactly. The guys play hard but as a team, they are aweful at shooting FTs. This team has been in a position to win most of their games this year. If we were a decent FT shooting team, we could easily be 11-6 or 12 -5. But missing FTs is a killer...that and TOs which are consistently poor at

They shot 16 more free throws than us....and made nine of those attempts. That was the game. Other than that it was equal up and down the court. Where is this 38 more attempts. FG, UL 23-60.....FG, FIU 25-60.......FT, UL 12-22......FG, FIU (21-38)...(that's the game winner)

Visiting teams often outshoot us in our own Dome...with the same depth perception issue. And we often shoot poorly on the road...where background isn't a problem...or shouldn't be.

Still if UL just shoots 77% from the FT_ you are guaranteed overtime and probably the win (running away) because FIU would have been the team fouling at the end.

Clearly it is hard to find a team shooting 77% on the free throw line. It is very hard to find players who can score, defend, rebound, and also shoot high percentage at the line. We do not have those players, rarely have. I never deal in if, woulda, shoulda. It is up to Marlin to get the players who can succeed in his system, teach his system, and retain players.

These guys are mostly freshmen and are not going to do well, we do not have the Fab Five. We should not be in need of so much freshman help.

Personally, I don't fully agree with Jay's theory. Although shooting ability certainly has something to do with FT shooting, many good shooters are not great FT shooters, and that appears to be the case with this team. The guys are not BAD shooters, but as a team, they are bad FT shooters. I've played basketball all throughout HS and played AAU every summer from 14 -18 yrs and in.my experience with many different teams and coaches, there is a strong psychological factor to shooting FTs. This includes confidence and perceptions of support from team and coach. e.g., I was always a pretty good shooter but my FT % wasn't always great and it depended largely on my relationship with my coach and teammates (would coach be supportive if I missed or tear me a new _______?).

I of course don't know what specific issues are at play with this and last years team regarding FT shooting but I'd bet its NOT that these guys are bad shooters...

Let me give you two names. Eric Mouton, and Michael Allen. Great point guards both, outstanding free throw shooters. The background has almost zero to do with free throws. Practice is important, but my eight year old nephew won a free throw shooting contest against twelve year olds and had to give the trophy back because he was competing with twelve year olds. These kids were not a bunch of walkups this was an important contest that failed to check his age. Unfortunately his dad played ball at SMiss, and the kid is an LSU fan.

Anyone who was at the game this year a few weeks ago has to call BS on this one. Cant remember the name of the team I think it was Robert Morris?!?!? I may be wrong.

Whoever they were they came to the dome and hit damn near 70% from behind the arc.

I have never seen a Marlin team shoot like that from the line much less from beyond the arc.

Getting tired of reading negative threads about the bball team. Only way to fix it is to start winning.
