Thread: Observations from the basketball game...

Default Observations from the basketball game...

*The girls fans are AWESOME! It was loud, rowdy and very very fun. I was very happy hearing fans actually cheer, chant defense and make the game FEEL big.

*Student sections stinks. I'm tired of seeing 50 students sitting down not even watching the game. Put'em in section 320 and let'em be. Sheesh.

*Shawn Long played like a beast in the 2nd half. Where is that guy at all game? He was rebounding with purpose both on offensively and defensively. He also scored basically at will in the 2nd half. Its pretty obvious.. when the guy wants to play.. he is the best player on the court.

Last night's win was a big one against a good team. We need a W streak to get the fans back to the dome. Its doable in this conference so.lets go do it!

This team is improving. We need a couple of subs to step up to help this team. The starters cannot play all 40 minutes every game. Soto showed a little of what he is capable of on offense last night. Marlin said he is still learning the offense. He needs to learn, fast. This team needs him. Aaron LeBlanc (a walk-on) if I am not mistaken, is helping to spell Long. Wronkoski must still be hurting, he didn't play as much in the second half. Without Kevin Brown, the bench is ever more important. We need them to grow up in a hurry.

Soto is a guy who helped us off the bench last night. He seems to be improving quickly now. Having to miss the first six games really set him back but I can see him being one of our better players down the road. Catch and shoot seems to be one of his strong points. Defensively, he may have trouble with quick guys but he has a big upper body so he causes problems for others. Wronkowski seems to have hit the freshman wall early. I would not be surprised to see him become a bench player as Thompson is now doing OK on defense and is likely to regain his starting spot. We will have trouble on the boards all year as we simply are outmanned inside. Moore played OK last night but he had limited minutes due to foul trouble. Not surprising as that often happens to guys who are simply smaller than the guy they are guarding. Good job last night of overcoming that shortcoming. Now let's see if they can play better on the road. They have played well at home in their last three outings. Robert Morris game got away from them as they shot poorly and Robert Morris was deadly from three point range but their floor game was OK that night. Mbamalu will be a key as he struggled at Ark. State but has been hot at home lately. If he can hit in a road game, maybe we can win one of these Florida road trip games.

Nice post less one..... UL absolutely must get out of Sunbelt asap. Huge failure that it hasn't already happened

    Mike,
I am not conceding anything. If this team can beat North Texas on their court, they can beat both Florida teams.
    Go Cajuns!

Was the NT win before or after Brown broke his foot?

I'll give you 2 out of 3, the students are out of school right now; we have never had a decent student crowd between semesters.

Meatloaf says 2 out of 3 ain't bad!

Bottom line is that Leblanc aint gonna win any post season awards, but I was impressed with what he gave us defensively Saturday night as well as good quality minutes which spells Shawn Long. I almost came on Saturday night or Sunday morning and stated that we should give the game ball to Leblanc. Considering he is barely on the roster and to play such a pivotal roll. Obviously he is eating some of the minutes that were supposed to go to Matthew Moss. He is showing what a roll player should be on a team. Great Job Aaron. Keep up the good work.

i was impressed with leblanc on the defensive end. Every time we were on defense it was fun watching him battle down in the post against UALR's big man. He surprised me with how well he did keeping the ball out of the post

I've been a season ticket holder for five years now. The only thing missing the other night were the three guys that stand up the whole game. Why doesn't our student section have any sort of tradition. Remember when the students used to read the paper during announcements? What about shaking your keys when you are up late? I mean they are TURRRRIBLE!

Another question.. Are 4 children the best suited to wipe down the floor at breaks? Do other schools use kids? Are swiffers standard fare at big time schools?

Students are fickle, just like our fans seem to be the last few years. Don't blame the students, blame the product Marlin as put on the court. I know he's rebuilding this program, but he seems to always take 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

Put some wins on the board and the student section will be rocking again, just like the general admission. When I was a student I didn't miss a game no matter what, but I still noticed the student section would definitely grow by the number of wins we had on the year. Not to mention, watching Dwayne Mitchell flying all over the place slamming home dunks was a lot more fun to watch than a bunch of small dudes that look like high school players trying to keep up with the opponent.

Something needs to change with our recruiting. And soon.
