The Student Orientaion Staff (SOS) of the University of Louisiana just returned last night from Florida State University where we attended the annual Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) from March 1-4. This conference is an "orientation" for orientation, where Universities from the south attend to give/receive ideas to aid in freshman orientation.
This workshop was comprised of about 45 Universities, including names such as:
FSU
U of Florida
UGA
Duke
Auburn
LSU
U of Tennessee
etc...
OK, now to the best part.
There are 6 awards that are given out at the end of the weekend. Awards are either decided by voting from the students (educational session & spirit awards), submission from an orientation leader in written letter (leadership awards), or voting by judges (song, skit & dance awards).
The University of Louisiana was awarded the following:
1st Place - Most Outstanding Educational Session
1st Place - Best School Spirit
1st Place - Best in Dance
UL had not even placed since somewhere around 02-03, so it was BEYOND BELIEF OR EXPECTATIONS that we took three 1st place awards. I wanted to let you all know about this because it is something to be very proud of, and this is just what the future Ragin' Cajun students are going to be getting over the summer. Watch out, cause like we yelled until our lungs were sore all weekend:
Can't, stop, Louisiana, no you can't stop Louisiana!!!
