Thread: Stout defense carries Ragin' Cajuns

  1. Default Stout defense carries Ragin' Cajuns

For weeks now, the defensive coaches have been hammering their pupils on how well East Caro_lina quarterback Shane Carden extends the play.

Fittingly, there was the defense obviously tiring and trying to hang on for the program's second consecutive bowl victory and there was Carden double and triple pumping as he rolled to the right sideline. It was fourth down....

We gave up a lot of yards but had two good periods where we stopped them on a number of series. Thank goodness one was at the start of the game. Bottom line, their defense was not as good as ours. Sure glad their WRs are not as sure handed as ours.

I'll second the foment on their WRs. They sure didn't help their QB who was a stud. So any times it looked like we were going to sack him and he just slid or spun out of it.

It looks like there was a reason they had one primary receiver with most of the catches and yards during the season; it's not because they didn't throw it to the others!

Our defense is good 90% of the time. When they falter, it's always in a big way. They hung in there tough on the final drive... and for that... I give them major props.

90% of the time is generous. Also, think about stAte and UNT where we could not stop the run and simply gave up 6-9 yards per carry

Terrance broadway gave ASU 5 extra possessions on his own, most defenses will get gashed and exhausted when your offense keeps putting them in a bad position, especially an explosive up tempo offense like ASU. Imagin what the saints would do to the ravens if they gave Brees and that offense 5 extra possessions. North Texas we were doing fine in the first half, then the turnovers and 3 and outs came in the 2nd half. I'm not saying our defense was great but when they aren't continually put in bad situations they stand up pretty well. Their aren't a ton of mid majors with stout defenses in the country, that's why all the scores are 42-35.

On the flip side if moten catches the 2 int's he dropped, one of which would have been a pick 6, it could have been a blowout

Out defense was not good by any metric

Forcing 3 three-and-outs to start the game while allowing the offense to go up 28-7 was THE metric of the game.
