The Cajuns were hurt by Southeastern Louisiana dropping a doubleheader to Sam Houston State. This dropped SLU out of the Base RPI Top 75, which means one of the RPI bonus wins is removed (Now 4 instead of 5). SLU now has a Base RPI of 77. This also means that the Cajuns' record against the RPI Top 75 dropped from 12-8 to 10-8.

The Cajuns are still close with Arkansas, Mississippi, and Mississippi State and have some breathing room with Miami. The 18 -> 21 spots are very tightly packed.

    13 0.6072 Mississippi State
    14 0.6044 Mississippi
    15 0.6025 Arkansas
    16 0.6018 University of Louisiana
    17 0.5943 Miami Florida
    18 0.5918 East Carolina
    19 0.5916 Stetson
    20 0.5913 Missouri
    21 0.5913 Arizona

    Hey Brian,
    Very interesting...

Arkansas lost the series final today to Alabama (lost 2 of 3)
Mississippi State lost both games of a doubleheader today to Georgia (lost 2 of 3)
Ole Miss lost their series final today to Kentucky (lost 2 of 3)
Virginia lost their series final today to N.C. State (lost 2 of 3)
San Diego lost their series final today to Santa Clara (won 2 of 3)
Florida State lost their series final today to Clemson (lost 2 of 3)
and Arizona State came from behind again to sweep UCLA, which is great.

Now we know that the Cajuns won today, which will probably at the most keep them stationary in their rpi ranking right now, but how much to you think things will change with these teams all being so closely scrunched together? I may not hear from you until tomorrow but I will be waiting to hear from you... thanks in advance.

Well, you did half of what I was going to post. Which is good since I am a bit tired after the drive back and will be going to bed in the next hour or so.

BTW, Clemson beating Florida State 2/3 was not good. But they are still several spots back of the Cajuns.

I think you will see the Cajuns have their rating stay roughly the same, maybe about a minuscule .0007 increase or so. But I think you will see the ranking move up 1, 2, or quite possibly three spots. They could very well leap Arkansas, Mississippi, and Mississippi State in the RPI rankings tomorrow. And this is what the NCAA will officially publish for the week. Meaning, when the selection committee meets via conference call, they will see the Cajuns as high as #13 this week, but at least #15.

... and the Cajuns did move up to #13 after this weekend's results (SEBaseball.com RPI), despite having its rating fall .0001. The Cajuns are a mere .0007 ahead of Mississippi.

We are also 13 in www.warrennolan.com RPI and 13 on www.Boydsworld.com as well.

This Nicholls game tomorrow night is huge, reason being is that it will not help us, but could murder us if we lose. They have an RPI of 253, it is a must win.

This will also set up a nice weekend vs a UNO team that has an RPI of around 100.

Anyone know the status of Buddy Glass? Hopefully he is healthy and fully rested for the SBC tournament.

Best thing for Tuesday is a nice thunderstorm at game time. Nothing good will come from that game.

UNO base rpi is at 99. Hopefully beating them up this weekend won't cause them to fal out of the top 100.

With our RPI now at 13 (both the BASE and ADJUSTED)... Brian, what do you think it could climb to if we were to win out? I know it might be hard to say, since it is based on what so many other teams do, but is a top ten RPI possible?

    thanks

I really cannot say since I don't even know what our schedule looks like after New Orleans. I will say that meeting FAU in the 1 vs. 8 game will be better for the RPI than playing FIU, Arkansas State, or South Alabama.

As you can see, there is a sizeable gap between the Cajuns at #13 (.6017) and Coastal Carolina at #10 (.6122). Meanwhile, a similar gap to the downside takes you all the way down to #22. So, there is much more potential to move down than up (from #13).

Just as important is what the Cajuns' record looks like against the Top 25/50/75/100 at the end. The Top 25 will not change, unless USM moves into the Top 25 (I would argue this would be a negative since our Top 25 record would be 1-5 instead of 0-3). Troy must stay in the Base RPI Top 50. The Cajuns also have several opponents straggling the Top 75 and Top 100 lines. They need as many wins as possible in those categories.
