Thread: Season long look at UL's trek through the Baseball RPI rankings

  1. #73

    Default Re: #28 this week

We prolly should be higher than some of the teams that are ahead of us, and Robe definitely should receive props for #700, but I know Robe knows that he's got a good squad and that ratings don't win games.

However, if you put stock in ratings, etc... don't worry about the polls, worry about RPI, because that seems to be more important for teams that need at-large bids. Even if you hate the RPI, you at least have to agree that it is something that is looked at. At this point (still alot of ball to play, but..) we jumped from #28 in RPI before FAU to #15. (BOP, I got these figures from boydsworld instead of warrnennolan as per your advice).

anyhoo, just thought I'd throw that in.

I agree with you 100% about the RPI. I just hate how we never get any respect. The reason I like the rankings is because it gives un national exposure and is one more tool that we can use to help with recruiting.

C'mon guys. I would not have the Cajuns in my Top 25 either. They are not far away, probably Top 30. But I do not see any teams in the CB Top 25 or BA Top 25 that I would have behind the Cajuns at this point, except maybe Southern Cal (ranked #25 in BA). But there are also a few teams that I would slot in front of the Cajuns for that last spot in the BA poll.

The below figures are the ones compiled by SEBaseball.com. They are going to be slightly different than that of Boyd Nation as the SEBaseball.com Adjusted RPI and Base RPI counts tie games (as does the official NCAA RPI formula). Hence, I have a slight preference to using this over Boyd's. But they are going to be close, unlike Warren Nolan's (which is significantly different).

The first column is the Adjusted RPI Rank followed by the Adjusted RPI Rating. After the team name you will see the Base RPI rank, followed by the Base RPI rating. For example, Louisiana has a Base RPI of (21, .6063) and an Adjusted RPI of (15, .6141).

You are correct brian they are Top 30 but you have to remember cajuns fan are very fickle. They sweep over the weekend and now they think they are a Top 10 team. bear with them...

Sounds like the core fan base of most every university in the country. And BTW, I am a Cajun fan.

Meanwhile, MineShaft and LSU are still trying to beat Kentucky Sunday 9-9? What the hell is wrong with the SEC that they can't get the game in on time before a time deadline?

Just so some of you do not get too down on BA with respect to the rankings, the Cajuns were considered by at least Aaron Fitt (one of the three that decides the rankings).

That said, I am not a fan of the criteria they use. But I think that they have the Cajuns slotted correctly right now.

    From the Chat ...

    Q: Joe from CA asks:
How close is Maryland in your ranking of top 25, they took 2 of 3 from Clemson this weekend, should of taken 2 of 3 at Miami prior weekend and took 2 of 3 AT NC State?
    A:

Aaron Fitt: If we had an open spot in our Top 25 this week, Maryland would have been a leading contender to fill it, along with Missouri, Arizona, Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane, Ohio State, Stetson and College of Charleston. I think all of those have worthy cases for the rankings.
