Thread: Season long look at UL's trek through the Baseball RPI rankings

Default Re: RPI and the Cajuns

Thanks Brian, this is good news. Especially considering we haven't played any of these teams. Hopefully the Cajuns can go out and pick up right where they left off tonight.

How much will the Troy loss affect the Cajuns (in rpi)? I can only guess that UALR has a very low rpi. Thanks in advance.

UALR is at #170. Troy will tumble some spots. They will probably be somewhere near 40 (high 30's?). While this will hurt the Cajuns some now, it will be a wash in the end assuming that Troy plays UALR three times and the Cajuns play UALR three times.

That makes perfect sense, I didn't even think of that.

Also, I know it's a little off topic but how is Arkansas ranked so high when they lose 2 of 3 to Mississippi State at home? Also, it appears they struggle in the Friday games (again tonight vs LSU). Is that because of a certain pitcher?

Nothing is off topic if it is college baseball.

The principle reasons why Arkansas has a high RPI ...

    1) They are 12-7 versus the Top 50 and 18-9 versus the Top 75. They have a number of wins versus high RPI teams.
    2) They are an impressive 16-8 on the road and have played half of their games on the road (rare for an SEC team). Some of these wins are bonus RPI wins.
    3) Even after tonight, they are 15-8 in the SEC (now trailing 1st place Vandy by one game - everyone else is a distant third)
    4) Their schedule has been difficult. 34/48 games are against the Top 100.

I have confirmed that the Cajuns have in fact moved up to #16 with an Adjusted RPI of .5980 (a slight increase of .0013). #15 Arizona State is at .6018 while #17 Stetson is at .5936. The Cajun Base RPI is #17 (.5926).

As expected, Troy did fall near #40. They are #39 in Boyd's World and #36 in SEBaseball.com's RPI (Adjusted RPI .5784). But in the SEBaseball.com RPI, they are a miniscule .0002 away from the #38 spot and only .0018 from the #39 spot. Baylor and Minnesota are tied at .5782. Troy fell a full .005 with the loss to UALR. Troy's Base RPI is #33.

In a game that will help the Cajuns' RPI, #159 Illinois knocked off #30 Michigan today 7-4 to even the series. Game #3 will shortly follow with Game #4 Sunday. This also gets the Cajuns connected with Michigan in the RPI.

No. The first criteria this season would be that the Cajuns would need to be a #1 seed. The Cajuns have not performed well enough against the Top 25 and Top 50 to be a #1 seed (despite that all of the games were on the road).

If we keep winning, hopefully we're just playing ouselves to a higher 2 seed, which means playing a weaker 3.

Well said, we have 7 regular season games left. It would be nice to win all 7 and finish the year 42-13. Then roll through the SBC tournament with adding 4-5 more wins. Then let the chips fall where they may. If we get some help from the teams in front of us, stranger things have happened. The key is to continue to win and make ourselves an attractive option for the NCAA selection committee as a 1 or a strong 2.

The other key is to get Buddy healthy, If we can win without him at this point we need to keep that open as an option. Due to the fact that we only have 1 more weekday game. I would say keep him out of the lineup if we can this weekend vs UALR.

Been out of the loop since Wednesday. In fact, just found out about the sweep. What's wrong with Buddy?
