Thread: Cajun basketball

    Default Cajun basketball

Well we had another game and again not a mention of it on this board. It is amazing how far this sport has fallen. Even three years ago a poor effort like tonight would have generated a lot of discussion. I am really at a loss. I grew up on this sport with UL. Some of my favorite childhood memories are top notch athletes trading shots at Blackam and the CD. It is the main reason I still play this sport competitively in my mid 40's.
Some think we are on the right track, but I just do not see it. I know we are young, but good players and good coaches win games...no matter there age. I have not seen this team in person yet but have heard enough on the radio to know we are not improving. I just hope I am wrong about this team and coaching staff.

This team is just not very good. These players just arent on the same level as the players we had before the Robert Lee era.

I would say they may not be as good as Lee's players. Did you see what our bench did tonight? It is the definition of no impact.

Bench is thin, roster is extremely too small, and star players are not consistent. We're always young because players don't want to stay here for some reason. No one cares about basketball anymore because of poor scheduling, bad play, and fans have just become apathetic. Can you blame them? Who are all these folks saying that Marlin has this team in the right direction? He's been here for how long? All these kids were recruited by this staff. The excuses are getting tiresome.

There was some talk about the game during the game on the thread about starting a new tradition. But I agree with you, the more games we lose the more fans we lose. I'm not seeing much progress but "we're young" right.

I think being young and bad works against us in keeping players. It is one thing to sit the bench on a good team. Most players can understand that. It is another to ride the bench on a bad team where you know they guy in front of you is not any better, but coach sees something in him. Take away Payton, Mbabalu, and Long. Are any of these guys consistently better than the others? I say no. If history is any barometer I would think any player that sits the bench on this team will transfer.

It is a fact that we are young, but that excuse won't fly with most fans. Ws fly with the avg fan. But you have to think about WHY we are so young...we have had attrition. It's possible the guys we lost had character issues and needed to go but WHY so much attrition? At some point the coach must be held accountable. I think Payton and long are legitimate talents that Marlin brought in. But I just can't say I agree that we are we should be right now as a program with the "right guy" at the helm. That said, I will support this program regardless

This is a bunch of straight BS! Yes i'm ticked off, because there is no reason for all of these excuses. Attrition... Marlin has been here for three years, those were "his" kids. Next, how in the fudge did we let this guys talk the program into giving him a raise. He gave himself job security and the program nothing but a hopeless dream so far. I'm sorry, diehard or not, there is no reason to continue to support or pay for a bad product. It's simple economics. If UL wants to play with the big boys, time to start treating the program like a big time program. No way we should be losing to Robert Morris and McNeese.....period, this would not happened under Fletcher,Lee, Evans or even J. Kelly Hall!
