JONESBORO, Ark.- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s and women’s track and field teams completed day two of the 2007 Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Sunday.
Freshman Justin Arceneaux had the best finish of the day for the Cajuns. Arceneaux earned a second place finish in the men’s 55-meter dash finals after recording a time of 6.36 seconds. He earned eight points for the Cajuns men.
Arceneaux also garnered Men’s Freshman of the Year honors at the meet for his performances throughout the indoor season. He helped lead the UL men’s team to a ninth place with 27 points.
The women’s team finished 11th with 7 points.
Arceneaux earned five more points for the Cajuns men’s team after finishing fourth in the men’s long jump. He recorded a distance of 6.99 meters.
Junior Kyle Ward clinched a fourth place finish in the men’s 55-meter hurdles finals posting a time of 7.53 seconds. Ward earned five points for the Cajuns.
Senior Joseph Dickens finished sixth in the men’s triple jump earning three points. Dickens posted a jump of 14.09 meters.
The UL men’s 4X400 meter relay team finished sixth and earned three points for the Cajuns.
Junior Ben Leonards finished eighth in the shot put recording a distance of 13.99 meters. He earned a point for the Cajuns.
Junior Chance Perkins finished eighth in the men’s heptathlon with 4125 points. Perkins earned a point for the Cajuns men.
The Cajuns men’s team’s final point came from an eighth place finish in the distance medley.
Junior Casey Brown led the way for the women’s team with a fifth place finish in the 5000-meter run. Brown posted a time of 18:54.58 earning four points for the women’s team.
The women’s distance medley team finished eighth earning 1 point.
Sophomore Kioloni Readeaux’s seventh place finish in the triple jump clinched the final two points for the women’s team. Readeaux had a jump of 11.68 meters.
Western Kentucky clinched the women’s indoor championship with 126 points while Arkansas State won the men’s championship with 129 points.
The Cajuns will compete in the indoor NCAA Qualifier in Baton Rouge on Friday, March 2.
