The UL men’s basketball team has contended with changes in latitude for the last nine days, but there haven’t been any changes in attitude. Today, at least, they don’t have to contend with a change in altitude.
In Saturday’s game at Denver, a narrow 67-65 victory, playing way above sea level had an effect on the UL squad. It probably didn’t help that the Cajuns had played Tuesday night in Charlotte, N.C., in the Eastern time zone, came home for a couple of days to play a Thursday game against UL Monroe and left the next day for the mile high city.
“We got a little tired, you could tell,” said Cajun coach Robert Lee. “We started not executing very well offensively late in the first half and Denver started beating us in transition, and I think fatigue had something to do with that.”
Altitude experts claim that it takes the body several days to adjust to a major change in altitude, but most basketball teams have to do it in 24 hours.
