Thread: Fletcher Hall a University of Louisiana Architectural Statement

  1. #25

    Default Fletcher Hall

Not only did they unveil a rendering of the new building, but students and others complained and petitioned for a new concept. AND THE NEW CONCEPT WAS JUST RELEASED. Not only did they have one, but two concepts in a months time. How do we hire these guys to do the master plan?

Link to TDA article: picture included.

Looks a lot better. Doesn't go with the overall campus look, but Fletcher has always been the outlier - and I believe the students there take pride in that.

I love it, not every building should look like the 19th century, especially this building.

A comparison of the two design efforts. Much better.

Rendering the new concept in a real-world picture definitely helped the cause. All these design tricks, or you could say do it right the first time.

I would like some traditional red brick with modern architecture.

Back side (side facing main campus) red brick.

    Front side this.

I also think a tribute to the historic look of all of the other buildings on campus would be appropriate.

I think you're missing the point here. A "tribute" to the historic look of all the other buildings would be just copying all the other buildings.

Fletcher Hall is the VISUAL ARTS building, and one major that it holds is Architecture. They want this building to STAND OUT, not BLEND IN with the rest of the buildings on campus. Art students take pride in Fletcher Hall, I should know.. I was one of them for about 2 years before switching to General Studies/Business.

Or plant a bunch of oak trees in front of it so that you can't see the building anymore.......

The building does not NEED red brick anywhere on it. You people have no originality.
