Thread: Fletcher Hall a University of Louisiana Architectural Statement

  1. Default Fletcher Hall a University of Louisiana Architectural Statement

LOUISIANA - Work to replace the facade of Fletcher Hall on the University of Louisiana campus, repairing extensive water damage to the building, will get under way early next year.

William Crist, the university's facilities director, says the major renovation involves resealing and refinishing the entire exterior of the building and enclosing open-air areas in the three-story building.

The building houses the College of Arts' School of Architecture and Design and its Department of Visual Arts.

The project received about $4.2 million in state capital outlay funding.

Crist says future phases of the improvements, focusing on interior improvements of the building, await more funding.

Someone posted the design on Facebook. Ironically, the architecture building is going to look hideous.

    Link?

I had heard about the architecture building about a year ago. I don't think one person in that department is for the renovation.

It was a crappy design to start with and anyone that puts a flat roof on a building in south LA is an idiot. Water damage, I wonder why? They are taking advantage of the outside porch areas that are contributing to the water damage issue and creating more usable space at a fraction of the cost of a new building. Suck it up people or tell your politicians to tax us more and put the money into higher education.

The problem with the building is the courtyard in the middle. It was intended to be an atrium but they ran out of money during the original construction and it turned out to be a courtyard. HOWEVER, all the finishes and materials in the courtyard were speced out as interior finishes that were exposed to exterior conditions. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.

I was hoping that someday they could make it look more like the rest of the buildings on campus. I guess the red stripe helps a little, but it's still not even close to the old red brick southern style buildings.
