When UL's men's basketball team met UL Monroe earlier this season, the Warhawk backcourt scored a technical knockout.
Thursday night at the Cajundome, it was the Ragin' Cajun inside game that got in the heavy punches, and UL's defense did the rest.
It added up to the Cajuns' biggest win of the year, an 85-56 destruction of their state and Sun Belt Conference rival. It was also a win that kept UL's hopes alive for a first-round home game in the Sun Belt Tournament, a fact not lost on ULM coach Orlando Early.
"They're a team that's playing with their backs to the wall every game trying to get that home-court advantage," Early said. "That's a big deal. We're still learning that."
The Warhawks (16-11, 10-5) still stand atop the Sun Belt's Western Division by two full games and are still in solid shape to claim the West title and a first-round tournament bye. But on Thursday, the Cajuns (8-18, 6-9) looked like much more the team that's peaking for the post-season.
