FINAL
Cajuns need to shake this game off, it really meant nothing but it could have killed our momentum. Big game Thursday against ULM.
Nice to see Cajuns getting a bit better against the low level competition of sunbelt. At least it is positive steps from what was the bottom of a free fall. But games like Charlotte do matter because it shows how far the Cajuns have fallen from being a competitive team on a national level. The first week of the season Cajuns could have probably played Charlotte very close, but as season goes on and the better teams improve, the Cajuns fall 20 or 30 points behind where they would be against decent teams in the first week, when teams are rusty. That's why Cajuns followed up competitive game against Cal St. Fullerton with 40 point loss to them a few weeks later. And Cajuns are a young team that is supposed to have big upside of improvement each week, but instead they are a team that only seems to have hope of figuring out how to win more games in sunbelt and perhaps compete for sunbelt upper half next year. Very quickly the days are now gone where Cajuns can actually compete outside of sunbelt. And they are too far away from that level to think that it will suddenly happen next year. Team will be more experienced and more talented next year, but not capable of moving forward more than winning more sunbelt games. The leadership of the program simply can't compete outside of sunbelt unless there are players with nba type talent on the team.Originally Posted by cjntgr

How do you know what the talent level on the team will be next year? Maybe one of the guys sitting out will have next level ability. I know this was a disapointing performance, but more attention has probably been devoted to ULM in practice this week than Charlotte as ULM is a conference game. Charlotte has been just an average team this year but they have been hot lately and may be poised for a late season run. They really hit the threes last night and when we allow that we always struggle. They also were at home and started four seniors vs our three freshman. When our top freshman barely plays because of foul trouble, things are even more challenging. Result not that surprising but we would all have hoped to be more competitive. Are you going to the Cajuns game at FIU next week? Also, I would like to see a post from you after we win a game. I don't think that has happened the entire season. I know you don't put much stock when that happens due to the conference being down this year.Originally Posted by miamicajun32

I did not pro-actively post just because of loss, but I went on raginpagin to see the score and noticed a post saying this game is no big deal and that it should not have been played. My point is that it is a big deal if Cajuns are consistently 20 to 30 points below only ordinary teams from higher conferences. I also don't think we should have to have nba type talent to compete on national level, outside of the sunbelt. There have been very very few nba cajuns and yet cajuns program has been a program to be very proud of for decades and has competed on national level without such nba type talent. My point is that the current leadership of the program has not proven it can win in sunbelt without nba type talent, even when having more talent most opponents, and has not proven it can win at all on national level without some nba type talent.
So, yes, I am concerned that the Cajuns program has turned into a program that simply hopes to eventually be able to compete in a low level conference, while just accepting sure defeat at the hands of the teams that are on a national level, even those like Charlotte this year that is not really all that good.

I admit that I think I notice your opinions or post after losses more than wins, and I sure hope your opinion from a far is waaaayyyyyyy off. I am a cheerleader for this coach right now and will be to the very end just as you have decided that Lee is not a good coach I choose to believe we are seeing some reprecussions of the Cyprien debacle and Jesse's last year when I think he decided he was gone.
Til the very I will hope your are wrong and hopefully eventually I will be right. The program is not in as bad of shape as I think you are thinking it is.
Then again maybe I am guilty of blind faith, I hope not but I have been guilty of that before.

I hope you are right too! It would be a perfect situation to see a very nice and honorable guy like Coach Lee to be able to turn things around. Seems like everyone that knows him thinks the world of him. I have just been disspointed with the win loss results and the excuses.... If you look at my posts in the past, going past this one basketball season, I have been optimistic almost to a fault. Before last season, I was claiming swee 16 along with Coach Lee. Other posters thought I was too optimistic then and thought I had the rose colored glasses on. I think most fans think like I do but most don't express on board.... A lot of us on this board are out of state Cajuns fans and this is how we keep up with Cajuns sports and also how we express ourselves. After all, if I tried to talk Cajuns basketball to my friends in Florida they would not be too interested.... ;-)Originally Posted by Ewhite
