By 4:35 p.m. Sunday, an overwhelming amount of applause welcomed a new Miss Lafayette and Lafayette Outstanding Teen at UL's Angelle Hall.
Veronika Citizen, an 18-year-old sophomore psychology major at UL, was crowned Miss Lafayette 2007 at the second-annual scholarship pageant. Citizen said she "couldn't believe it" when she was announced the winner.
"I'm so excited," she said. "I'm just so relieved about this, and I'm so glad I have the chance to represent Lafayette at the Miss Louisiana pageant in June."
As the new Miss Lafayette, Citizen will receive a $500 cash scholarship, an official Miss America preliminary crown and an all expenses paid trip to compete in June for the crown of Miss Louisiana in Monroe.
