True, if they were to decline New Orleans, they would be able to select another SBC team, because they get to select the first bowl eligible SBC team. The Godaddy then would have had to wait on us until selection Sunday though because the conference champion must be slotted in a bowl game unless otherwise accommodated. Most bowl invites have not gone out, and are not required to until Sunday, so like I said, we wouldn't be stringing them along, but saying we are weighing our options as conference champions. They'll get their answer by the time that is required.

The SBC only has the obligation to place the champ where they have the power to place.

If you turn down both tie-ins, you are on your own.

I just find it crazy for anyone to think we could "wait and choose" which bowl. We could have been this year's butt of the joke I threw out here last year, which applies again this year....

What's the difference between Cheerioes and LTUR? You'll see Cheerioes in a bowl in the next few weeks.

Now let's embrace what we have, a third straight wining season AND a possible third straight bowl win. Few programs from the G5 can say that EVER about their programs.

So a good thing to call it is an offer, not placing them there, you are inviting them there. Ball goes into their court after that.

I am trying to think of an analogy ----- but there is one point that solves this entire deal----What really happened??? Lets just suppose that I am the NO Bowl's head guy---I know that going into the season that UL is the only goal that I have --we are the ones---I do everything I possibly can to get them cause if I do I am the hero of New Orleans---So with that in mind I strike very early and I put together packages that make the Cajuns turn down their only other 2 Bowls---I give them WHATEVER they want---WHATEVER----I just hope that the reason we had the courtesy to say no early was that we got an offer we couldn't refuse---I am T-Joe, I am Farmer, and even HUD and I have to take this to go to NO!!!!! OK what does Farmer do??? Asks for doubling expenses (yes we double the coaches' bonuses)and uses a creative way to cook the books to keep some money away from the conference---By doing this we eliminate some other conference teams from going Bowling and therefore not have to share as much of our bucks (selfish) well maybe in a way but hey we are the ones that would get $krewed!!!! OK guys maybe this is not the way it came down but I sure hope so!!!! Maybe I should have stayed on in the athletic administration!!! lol

Why didn't we coin the phrase "TechNo bowl" last year?

Because we didn't want to go to the "TechNo" Bowl this year.

Turbine, read the by-laws. The SBC has the obligation to place the champion or Co-Champion. So if UL loses this weekend and are Co-Champions with Ark. State, both are now placed in bowls. You are not on your own.

So what happens if UL chose to not go to the bowl that the SBC was placing it in? The university has the ability to accept the bid, not the conference. The conference's responsibility is to provide avenues or opportunities for those teams who either finish as champions or runner's up with a bowl game. Its up to the school to accept those opportunities or not. See La Tech last year.......So you can be on your own if you choose to be....Like La Tech last year

That's not what I am saying; If the SBC offers either or bowl and UL says no to both SBC tie-ins, the SBC has fulfilled their bylaw obligations.

They do not have the power to force a third party outside bowl to take UL.

It is a far fetched concept I know, and I hope Louisiana never does what Notre Dame, LSU, UCLA and LA Tech each decided one year. "We don't want that" or in the case of the first three "we don't deserve a bowl

Turb, you assume that both Bowls would offer immediately. As I understand it Benson would have persuaded GoDaddy to wait even if NO wouldn't / couldn't. And due to the late date, GoDaddy could have afforded to wait a week in hopes of getting UL if we didn't get Indy.

So we roll the dice for the conference and basically get screwed in the end to play the 4th place MAC team in mobile. No thanks
