Interesting Scores from the 2007 NCAA Baseball Season

There were a lot of upsets this weekend in college baseball. La Tech won 1 of three against Arkansas and could very easily have swept them.

I know it is early, but I just can't wait for the first pitch at the Tigue.

Texas-San Antonio knocked off #30 College of Charleston today 6-4 in San Antonio. The Road Runners are now 5-9 and C of C drops to 11-2.

LSU knocked off Southern Miss in Baton Rouge tonight 2-1. USM had runners on 1st and 3rd with one out and James Ewing at the plate in the top of the 9th. Ewing lined out to RF. On the play, the run would have scored but the runner at first base (Sutton) was doubled off. Sutton may have thought that the ball was going to fall and was going to try to score (for the lead) or at least safely reach third.

In an important RPI game for the Cajuns since they will be traveling to Arizona State later in the season, Arizona State knocked off Long Beach State 7-6 in the first game of a three game series.

Hmmmm! The runner must have been doubled off before the other runner retouched and then crossed the plate or the run would have counted.

Been in that situation a couple of times when scorekeeping games.

Yes. The line out was to right field. The right fielder (Steven Waguespack) made a diving catch and only had to throw to first base. Unless the ball was deep, I would expect that the runner at first would have been doubled off before the runner from third could cross the plate.

But this is another example of why one should always run hard, even if you are confident you will not be thrown out on the play.

I'm trying to guae Southeastern's team.

I would classify Georgia State as mediocre. They do have an upset win at Georgia Tech, but were hammered pretty good at Alabama. SLU winning 2/3 is about what I expected on the road. Not bad considering the one loss was by a single run.

Southeastern Louisiana has a good scrappy team that I think will challenge for the Southland title, provided they stay healthy. Texas State will be tough to beat this season.

Southeastern Louisiana has midweek contests at Southern Mississippi this week and at LSU next week.
