Interesting Scores from the 2007 NCAA Baseball Season

Thanks for the link to the game. The guys calling the game stated the rule said that both the runner and the batter should be called out. They read the rule straight from the book. I am not questioning what they read but I would have thought that the runner would be out and the batter would have to return to first. What is your take.

The broadcasters corrected themselves later. My understanding is that the interfering runner (Bianucci at the plate) is called out and the advancing runner must go back to first on the dead ball (regardless of whether he would have made second safely or not). I am sure this was Pierce's contention as well.

Troy just blasted a HR in the bottom of the 16th to win it 5-4. Great game and was a blast to listen to.

Bianucci was ejected on the collision at the plate. On an ejection, all runners must go back to the last base touched before the act that prompts the ejection occured (in this case, the collision at the plate). The SEC umps told Coach Bobby Pierce that the runner that hit the single was at second base before the runner attempting to score from second collided with the catcher (Beau Brooks) at the plate.

Ummm ... BS!

For that to happen, you would have had to have David King attempting to score from second with John Coker or Joe Burnet slapping the single and attempting to advance to second base on the play at the plate ... and David King would have had to fall down at least once before making his way to the plate.

I am glad Troy won this one and Auburn did not plate that advancing runner on second in the 15th.
