Kent state is ranked 17 and if they win the mac championship they could climb one spot in the rankings, and that would put them in a bcs bowl

All that is looked at is the overall won/lost record. Close losses and blowout wins don't overcome the losses to UNT and Ark St.

Some of the composite rank uses scores I think, but you are probably right. This is a multi layered ranking of numerous models.

Looking at the rank, only UCLA seems in jeopardy of losing enough ground to let Kent State in with a win. UCLA plays Stanford who again this week and it was all Stanford last week. Texas at 18 with a win over Kansas State, a long shot, could vault past Kent State even with a UCLA loss.
