I think this actually shows a great respect for the progam and coaching, considering the graduation losses and the lack of pitching returning.

We've usually been treated well in the polls, but not typically in the seedings come tournament time.

Exactly. I feel we are about right when it comes to the polls but every year the selection committee seeds us to low. I am scared if we happen to not win the conference tourney they keep us out.

What is up with the NCAA committee. Usually seeded one spot too low in recent basketball tourneys and last year keeping us out for baseball.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think the Softball tourny champ gets auto bid due to how new the league is in softball. I think how well we fair out of conference will have a much bigger impact than conference.

I don't know the answer. We are getting ahead of ourselves... but... still... I do get ticked when we get seeded totally irrespective of our ranking. It doesn't always matter if you are in the middle of the seeding, but what is up with UL getting seeded lower than our ranking? Just doing the math, I can see a single seed off due to balancing the sites, but 2 or 3 seeds off of the ranking?

It isn't like the polls have a love affair with UL. Why would the NCAA see it differently. Anyone know?

    Three things:
1: We were a bad team mid week
2: DID NOT make conference final
3: USA played a more ambitious schedule

All we have to do to go to the NCAA is beat the teams we are supposed to beat in mid week. If we cannot do that, then perhaps we are not tournament ready.

I was upset about our failure, not the selection last season. I hardly ever am not upset with with the selestion committee.

I thought this thread was about softball. The selection committee(s) stink, regardless.

I believe you are right about the past. But now that N. Tex and Fla. Atl. has joined in softball I believe the tourney champ will get an automatic bid. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Hey thank God they didn't pick us as number 1!

There is still no auto bid in softball. The NCAA says you have to have XX number of (the same) teams for XX number of years. We started with only five, then went to six, then seven etc. Tech left the league after the first year and that started things over. Then, New Mexico State left. For several years we didn't have enough of the (same) teams.

As far as our seeding, it's simple. Strength of schedule. Our geography beats us up having to play so many Southland schools and we didn't do ourselves any favors with the teams we were inviting in for the La. Classics, etc. Playing in the NFCA, the Kia and going to Arizona wasn't enough to offset all that. When it comes to seeding, rankings don't mean squat, unfortunately.

There seems to be an upgrade in this year's non-conference schedule, so I expect our SOS will be determined by how we play against these teams and how the rest of the conference does in their non-conference schedule.

There is an upgrade in the teams we're bringing in for the first two tournaments and the staff gets kudos for that.

Unfortunately, the NFCA screwed us out of the tournament in GA., and that was replaced by a weak tournament at Northwestern State.

So it's kind of a wash through no fault of ours.
