Sidney "Sid" Naquin played his first year of varsity basketball in 1930-31. His natural position was guard, and by all accounts he was very credible to the position. It was said that he was a very conscientious ball handler, aware of his surroundings and always anxious to learn. These qualities coupled with his natural abilities carried him far on the road to basketball remembrance.

In the first half of the 1931-32 season Sid saw little action. This all changed however at the halfway point when in a team loss to LSU, Sidney's excellent play earned him a permanent position. He continued to see action in every succeeding game.
