Thread: Coaching Moves (Fires & Hires)

This is not based on my disdain for all things monrovian, but I don't see Berry getting a new gig based on one years success especially since it was pretty obvious that ther success was asked solely on Browning. Without Browning they were not the same team (although hey were not horrendous). Fortunately for Berry he has Browning for another year. The big story will be what Berry and the Hoax do post-Browning. Of course, stranger things have happened, witness Dereck Dooley. If an offer does comes his way he better jump ship while he can.

How big of a program would it take to lure Hudspeth away from UL? Would he leave for anything short of an AQ conference gig? Though UL pays Hudspeth much more than we paid our head coaches before him, UL is still way down the list when you look at what head coaches are paid around the country.

Auburn and UT will be tough sells for any coach. UT was just handed 2 more years of probation and Auburn is under investigation.

Coach Hud is one of the top paid HC's in the Sun Belt (maybe just below Malzahn?). I believe he makes ~800K. IMO he would not leave for any non-BCS job, since pay wouldn't be significantly higher than what he's making here. SEC, or the right BCS situation.

Also remember Coach Hud hasn't won a conference championship, and has not beaten a BCS school. In the past two years the Cajuns are 0-4, with 2 blowouts and 2 "almosts". I think if he takes the Cajuns to a third consecutive bowl next year, then that will trump the lack of a conference championship and a BCS upset to launch him into a bigger job.

Of course, with all the turnover this year in the SEC, I wonder what jobs would open up at the end of 2013?
Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Auburn are all getting new coaches this year. I don't really see any coaches getting fired next year since all other teams are doing well. Maybe if Franklin got hired away from Vandy? Or Missouri's HC could get fired, I forgot about them.

I absolutely believe Hud is on multiple lists, but I wouldn't think he's in the top 2/3 on them. As we all know the top 2/3 don't always work out so this is going to be interesting. I'm just going to enjoy every second in the meantime because we def. have something special going on right now and it's not guaranteed it can be sustained.

    Southern Miss just fired Ellis

I wonder if Hud's attachment to Mississippi might tempt him. I don't see it, but I am frequently wrong about such things.

He also turned down Memphis a few years ago to stay in Murfreesboro and got a nice raise. He played QB at Florida State and has strong Florida ties, so keep an eye out on any openings in that state (USF?).

My opinion: Someone leaves the Sun Belt this year for a "bigger" job. Not sure who (think the best odds would be Malzahn), but I think it happens for the second straight year.
It is my understanding that now that USM just fired their coach today after an 0-12 season, they have Hudspeth at or near the top of their list

Hud makes more than the USM coach did. Plus, taking the job at USM would kill any chance he ever had of landing a job at either of the SEC schools in Mississippi.

Don't think so VO, he wasn't considered by the Ole Miss big guys because he had no ties to the program. Taking the USM wouldn't change that fact.

The name being mentioned for USM early in the process is UNC assistant.....ready.....
