The Sun Belt Conference softball coaches know that UL will field one of its youngest teams in recent history for the 2007 season. They also know that one of the league's new teams enters with some impressive credentials.
But when it came time to vote on the preseason poll, Sun Belt coaches went with what they knew best.
UL, winner of every regular-season and tournament title since softball became a league sport in 2000, sits atop the coaches' preseason poll announced Tuesday by the league office. The Cajuns, coming off a 50-12 season in 2006 and an eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, were picked first by six of the nine league coaches.
