Louisiana travels to Thibodaux, La. to play a game against the Nicholls State on Monday, Nov. 19 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at David R. Stopher Gym. Last season, Nicholls State traveled to Lafayette and the Colonels beat the Cajuns 72-64. Under the direction of first-year head coach Garry Brodhead, the Cajuns are coming off their first loss of the season against Omaha, 79-67.
UL returns just four players from a year ago, opening the season with seven newcomers (five freshmen and two junior college transfers). Four Cajuns average double digits in scoring and leading the way is freshman guard Sylvana Okde, averaging 16.7 points. Ashley Benjamin is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. Kia Wilridge and Keke Veal average 10.7 points each. Byronesha Santiago leads the team in rebounding, posting a 6.0 average to go along with 9.3 points.
Nicholls State, who posted a 15-16 overall record last season, returns four starters from last year’s squad, seven returning letterwinners and six newcomers. Four Colonels average double digits in scoring this season, led by KK Babin’s 14.5 points per game.
