Cross-country transfers frequently get lost in the shuffle when recruiters come calling. Brandon Cox was an outstanding lineman in Pennsylvania before he transferred to Irving Texas. Like Jenks, Oklahoma’s Larry Pinson, who transferred to the Tulsa area from Eagan, Minnesota, Brandon drew instant attention when he moved into the Irving area.

Brandon has exceptional size, at 6-8 and 285 pounds. His speed is impressive for a man his size, Brandon bench-presses three hundred pounds, squats four hundred pounds. He has a twenty-six inch vertical jump. A more than adequate student, Brandon has a "C+" classroom average. He is expected to qualify. Brandon has the physical qualities to play on either side of the ball. Good size with the potential to get bigger. Long arms, good speed and quickness, and good feet are necessary traits on either side of the ball.

The list of schools recruiting Brandon is impressive, particularly when in light of his recent transfer. Arizona State, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana at Lafayette, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tulane, UTEP, and Wisconsin are all very interested. Sources in Irving suggest that all of the schools are expected to offer tenders. No early decision is likely...

Elementary and middle schools give awards for perfect attendance, and you have to figure that Brandon Cox won a lot of those awards. If the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football team had a similar award, Cox might be on his way to winning it for a third straight time. As a true freshman in 2003, Cox started all 12 games at right offensive tackle and played 841 snaps, more than anyone else on the entire squad. As a sophomore last year, he started all 11 games at left tackle and was on the field for 840 snaps - again, more than any other Cajun. This season ... nine straight starts, and by the time the season's over he'll likely be over the 800-snap mark once again. He'll get close by the end of Saturday's 6 p.m. home finale against Florida International. "Anybody that's a competitor doesn't want to leave the field," Cox said Tuesday after the Cajuns' two-hour practice. "That's a competitor's attitude. You want to be out there when the big plays happen." Cox has been out there for more than his share over the past three weeks, and it's he and his offensive line mates that have been the catalyst for UL's current three-game win streak and its vault into Sun Belt Conference contention. Saturday's 31-28 win at North Texas, though, was the most fun, he said. "I grew up about 25 minutes from there," the Irving, Tex., native said. "I had a lot of family there, and that made it pretty exciting when we scored at the end." That score, one that game with 1:10 left, came at the end of an offensive lineman's dream - an 88-yard, 15-play march that took up 8:46 of clock time and included one downfield pass, one screen and 13 rushing plays that gobbled up 63 yards. This is the time of year pro scouts scour the country to find the top players for the 2007 NFL draft. And they are beating a quick path to Lafayette to take a long look at UL senior offensive tackle Brandon Cox. Cox, a 6-foot-6, 330-pound tackle who prepped at Nimitz High School in Texas, won first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as a junior in 2005 and NFL scouts have taken notice. "Brandon is not only a tremendous football player, but he is an outstanding young man," Louisiana's defensive backfield coach and pro liaison Tim Rebowe said. "He has great size at 6-6 and 330 pounds and for a big man, he moves around extremely well. Brandon has quick feet and he has started for us at both left and right tackle. A lot of players have excellent physical ability, but they don’t all have a great passion for the game. Brandon is a tremendous practice player, he loves to work at his craft and the players and coaches have great respect for his attitude. Brandon hits the practice field every day with a big smile and his teammates just love being around him." Rebowe, a former assistant coach at Nicholls State and the former head coach at Destrehan High School said Cox, a three-year starter, is the perfect fix for UL’s offense heading into next season. "He was a huge part of our success last season, and he is a key member of what we hope to be an excellent season in 2006," Rebowe said. "Brandon is a tremendous run blocker, he has long arms, and he fully understands the techniques in our zone-blocking schemes. We have had a host of pro scouts come here to scout him in the spring, and while he will need some work on his overall pass blocking techniques, there is no question in my mind that he can play at the NFL level. I have been around some pretty good offensive linemen in my coaching career and while some have graded out just as high as Brandon out on the field, I have never been on a staff with an offensive lineman with this amount of talent, size and growth potential." i was just over talking to brandon cox, and the subject came up about where he's originally from......and this is from brandon, "i'm from Pittsburg, PA!" the team was given a little chance to cool off at the pool, i looked it up and they have him listed as being from Irving Tx. but he's really from Pittsburg.

I think Brandon graduated from HS in Irving. Don't know how long he lived there.

For some reason This rings a bell, so someone else jump in and verify what I say. If I remember correctly, he moved to Irving Texas his senior year, which is why some recruiters cooled off on him. With that being the case, think about it this way, if you lived some where until you were seventeen, then moved somewhere for a year before you went to college, where would you say you were from?

LOUISIANA La. - The University of Louisiana announced on Wednesday that offensive tackle Brandon Cox has accepted an invitation to the second annual Magnolia Grid Iron Classic. Cox becomes the fifth Cajun to accept a post-season bowl invitation under head coach Rickey Bustle. Former Cajuns/current NFL’ers C.C. Brown (Houston Texans), Charles Tillman (Chicago Bears) and Ivan Taylor (Pittsburgh Steelers) all played in the Hula Bowl, while Bill Sampy (Philadelphia Eagles) played in the Inaugural Grid Iron Classic last season. The Irving, Texas native has started every game in his career, currently 44 consecutive games on the offensive line. Starts in both of the Cajuns final two games would establish a new Cajuns career record for both career starts and consecutive starts. “I’m very proud of Brandon that he gets the chance to play in an all-star game,” said Bustle. “He is following in the footsteps of some very good Cajuns that have played in post-season bowl games. “He has what it takes to play at the next level and the (NFL) scouts have shown an interest.” Following their appearances in the Hula Bowl, Brown was taken by Texans in sixth round of the 2005 NFL draft, Tillman was selected in the 2003 NFL draft by the Bears with the third pick of the second round, while Taylor went to the Steelers in the fourth round of the ’03 Draft. After catching a 41-yard touchdown pass in the ’05 Gridiron Classic, Sampy signed as a free agent with Philadelphia immediately following the 2006 NFL Draft. The 2006 MGIC will be played on December 23 in Jackson, Mississippi at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon. The game is designed for Division I college football players that have the potential to play in the NFL, but whose team was not invited to a bowl or playoff game. The game will pit I-A players against I-AA foes. Former Mississippi State head coach Jackie Sherrill has been named honorary coach of the I-A squad, while former Jackson State head coach W.C. Gorden was announced as the honorary coach of the I-AA squad. In future years, the MGIC will be played on Christmas Eve, but due to Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday in 2006, the game was moved up a day to Saturday. They do now. Its becoming the age of the slightly smaller but faster lineman. Either that, or the freaks who can still be 6'6 and 330lbs and still run a 5.0sec-40
