    Idaho Potato Bowl.....

Remember the good ole days when any bowl would have been welcomed.

I don't feel like looking it up, but off-hand, does anybody know when that Tech-N. Illinois game was played?
    I'm thinking 2009.

Yes... even the Indy Bowl was welcome to us, back in 2008 (you asked). We would have had a healthy MD (Desormeaux) and with Fenroy and Chery... we would have been unstoppable offensively. But, Dooley and Setters conspired to keep us out.

I was thinking it was 2008 and Setters is no friend of La Tech. Neither is the bowl. They will only take Tech as a last resort........they prefer out of state teams ( except lsu ).

The prior NO Bowl contests had an opponent that helped bring fans. Our NO Bowl did not. We (UL) attended that game exceptionally better than everyone prior, despite having a west coast team that both brought no one, but also didn't light up too many people's interest in seeing the matchup. If we had had a CUSA team, you could easily add 10k to the 42k.

The point someone was making is strictly that we will travel exceptionally better to New Orleans (or Mobile) than ULM. And that is a fact. I was in Monroe when NLU played in the D1AA national championship (their version of a bowl game). I went to the semi-final game at NLU. The biggest thing that had ever happened at that school. They announced 17,000. It felt like being at a high school game.

You can take it to the bank that UL is way more "special"... in a good way... than ULM.
i know we would travel better than ulm, never said we wouldnt. but there are other factors that go into this equation, one is that they have to take the champion either this year or next. if monroe wins the sunbelt, in my opinion, i dont think its so cut and dry that they leave a sunbelt champion ulm at home (or other bowl) over us. if they do take ulm( as champion), the clock starts over i believe, which means they would have 5 years to take the champion twice, unless the contract rules change after this set of 4 years. i feel the same way about ASU over us as champion. hopefully none of this matters and we win out and the other guys fall.

Damn, not this '08 IBOWL crap again?!? Do you really think the bowl or ESPN would allow 2 regional teams to play each other? There would be ZERO outside interest.

I don't disagree with the possibilities of who the NO Bowl committee will take this year. But, we are the best, by far, selection for them out of the SBC. Always have been... always will be.

I just drove past the stadium in Shreveport, that place is a dump along with the minor league baseball field that has been left for the pigeons to crap all over. The Ibowl needs to look at Tech are ULM and leave us out.

So if it was our only bowl invite you'd turn it down?

Are you really trying say that Tech vs. N. Illinois was the more interesting matchup?
