    Default Latest Bowl Numbers

As of today 56 teams are bowl eligible for 70 spots, with 36 teams battling for the remaining 14 spots. Two teams ended any dreams of going bowling last weekend (Temple and Western Michigan). Here are the teams that have 6 loses that we should be keeping an eye on the next couple of weeks (20 of them):

    ACC
Maryland plays Florida State this weekend and should be done
Va Tech plays Boston College and will probably stay alive this week
UVA plays North Carolina and could be done this week

    Big East
USF plays Miami this weekend and could be done
Pitt is off this week but plays Rutgers next week and could be done
UConn is off this week but plays Louisville next week and could be done

    Big Ten
Iowa plays Michigan this week and should be done
Indiana plays PSU this week and should be done

Purdue plays Illinois this week and should stay alive for one more week

    CUSA
Marshall plays Houston this week and one of these guys will be done
    Houston see above

Rice plays SMU this week and could be done

    MAC
Miami (OH) plays CMU this weekend and one of them will be done
    CMU see above

    MWC
New Mexico plays Nevada this week and could be done

    PAC 12
Utah plays Zona this week and could be done

    SEC
Tennessee plays Vandy this week and could be done
Arkansas plays Miss St and should be done

    SBC
UNT plays ULM this weekend and could be done

    WAC
Texas St plays Navy this weekend and should be done

And as always, this is predicated on us winning at least 1 of our last 3 games.

Good info. I would like to see this updated at the end of every weekend.

    Thanks for doing the research.

One minor correction: Utah and Zona are not in the MWC. Both are PAC XII schools.

I knew that, I actually just left the Pac 12 header off. Corrected now.

Well get ready for Thursday night then, we will all be pulling for UNC to beat UVA and that would eliminate another team from Bowl Consideration.

UVA is Tech's best win. The other 8 are that bad

And their worst loss was by 2 to A&M. Tech's been ranked in everybody's Top 25 for four or five weeks now. They're getting tons of publicity from it too. Say what you want about their schedule, but 9-1 seems to be all the voters care about. I would go for a few games with lower tier Big 10 and ACC schools. Tech's season this year is proof that voters view wins over bad Big 10 and ACC teams as more impressive than wins over SBC, CUSA, WAC, or MAC teams.

It will be interesting for La. Tech this weekend. They are three point dogs at home against Utah State.

Scratch UVA off the 'possible bowl-eligible' list.

35 TEAMS FIGHTING FOR 14 SPOTS.

    UP NEXT

Maryland, Va Tech, Pitt, USF, UConn, Iowa, Indy, Purdue, Marhsall, Houston, Rice, Miami (OH), CMU, UNM, Utah, Tennessee, Arkansas, UNT and Texas State.

If all of the potential lose that would eliminate 17 teams, because 4 on this list play each other. Which would make it 17 teams fighting for 14 spots.

You can scratch out Texas State:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Te._football_team
This is Texas State's only season as members of the Western Athletic Conference.[1] Texas State will join the Sun Belt Conference for all sports in 2013-14.[2] It is the second year of their transition from the FCS to the FBS, so they are not eligible to win the WAC regular season title or participate in a bowl game until 2013.

You can scratch out Texas-San Antonio who are already at 6 wins:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_UT._football_team
This is the second of a two-year FCS to FBS transition period for UTSA, so they will not be bowl-eligible until 2013. It will be UTSA's only season in the WAC. UTSA will join Conference USA on July 1, 2013.[2]

Looks like 72 teams is the likely scenario just looking at the teams that are trying to get that 6th win and who they are playing. That means two teams left out in the cold. One from MAC, one from SBC is the likely equation.
