First, we would have a lot more than 500 tickets, a lot more. Second, you can't put a price tag on what it means to a coach trying to build a program for him to go to back to back bowls. Third, the monetary loss of a bowl game should not have any effect on 50-60 million dollar renovation, that money is not gonna make or break that project. it's a reward for the coaches and players and fans who choose to travel. It's an extra 3 weeks of practice that you are not allowed other wise. We have only been to 1 in 40 years, you don't turn down a bowl game under any circumstance, I don't care where it's played or how much it cost.
You don't turn down bowls dude.
If we go bowling, I will do everything I can to attend. Even if its in Detroit. Not ideal but I will take it, I guess.
I don't think we will or we should turn one down. I was just pointing out that the other poster wasn't saying we were too good for the bowl just that it might not be worth the expense. I disagree. I also think we would bring more than most think to that game. I can't imagine we would turn down any bowl invite.
I read once, the UCLA and Notre Dame and LSU programs went through major lulls in the years after they turned down a bowl game appearance.
The deal is to go to a BOWL and MAKE MONEY---Ready to go with Jay to a NO repeat---a win win win win!!!!! Money fun press recruiting!!!!!!
By CDC mortality tables, utilizing the LOWEST death rate for any age in the 18-35 age group [males only], which would skew the actual number downward, if we assume a constant deployed military presence of 200,000 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, the expected death rate from all causes would be 4,966 per YEAR... Turns out it is quite a bit safer to be in the military in a war zone than to be anywhere in the US, at least in terms of mortality. I do not have tables for accidental injury.
So, no, it isn't a stupid statement, though I doubt he researched it before he made it.
You all should visit Flint, MI!
But, how many fans would travel to a bowl game in Detroit? We would look like SD State did in the NO Bowl and maybe not that many. I'm afraid we would lose money on that one. But, better than no game at all. I sure hope we keep it to a bowl game within driving distance of Lafayette and can have another great showing of fan support.
Detroit = boxes and boxes of REAL Cuban cigars across the river in Windsor, Ontario. That makes it a worthwhile trip.
