TEMPE, Ariz. - Thanks to three hits and two RBI by team captain Rocky Laguna, the Arizona State Sun Devil raced past the Washington State Cougars 16-6, sweeping the three-game Pac-10 series. ASU has swept Pac-10 opponents on back-to-back weekends for the first time since 2005, improving their record to 29-10, 10-2 in conference play.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead after a home run off starter Brian Flores in the 4th, but the Devils answered back with five runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-1. After an RBI ground out by Brett Wallace evened things up, Eric Sogard picked up a bunt single, bringing home another run. Matt Spencer plated three with his RBI double to right after the Devils loaded the bases after an intentional walk to Petey Paramore.
Great first post. Putting the coach under the bus. Kinda odd that our coach is so bad, but our record is 28-9.Originally Posted by UL17
Pitching helped lead UL's baseball team to Friday and Saturday victories over Troy in the first two games of their Sun Belt Conference series at Troy, Ala.
On Sunday, Troy turned the tables, thanks to Josh Dew.
The Trojans' standout senior righthander came in relief in the fourth inning and kept the Cajuns in check the rest of the way. His teammates, meanwhile, ravaged UL pitching for 16 hits on the way to a 14-4 eight-inning run-rule shortened victory Sunday at Riddle-Pace Field.
Troy (20-16, 8-7) took a 4-1 lead in the third inning on Kevin Weidlich's three-run homer, answered every UL uprising with matching runs and finally ended the game with a five-run eighth inning that allowed the hosts to avoid a weekend sweep.
Dew scattered seven hits over the final five innings and struck out eight, and the only damaging hit was Matt Hicks' two-run homer in the fifth inning that pulled UL within 5-4. Troy responded with two runs in its half of the fifth and sixth, and Dew (6-0) threw shutout innings the rest of the way. Hicks' first career homer was UL's only extra-base hit.

HAMMOND - Southeastern Louisiana closes out a four-game baseball roadtrip on Tuesday when it visits in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Tigue Moore Field.
The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern (23-15), which returns home to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field on Friday against Southland Conference rival Texas-Arlington, fell 5-4 to Texas State in the rubber game of a three-game series on Sunday. The Lions staged a 4-0 lead after one inning before a Texas State rally, that included three unearned runs off a pair of Southeastern errors, helped the Bobcats claim the series.
It's "Turn Back the Clock Night" with throwback uniforms, the Louisiana Purchase barbershop quartet and the return of the Fabulous Cajun Chicken at UL's Moore Field tonight.
It's also Ticket Redemption Night, with all unused season tickets good for admission when the Ragin' Cajuns host Southeastern La. at 6:30 p.m.
But for Cajun baseball coach Tony Robichaux, it's another audition night.
Robichaux is still searching to establish pitchers for mid-week games and for Sunday games in weekend series, and he admits it's getting late in the season.
