Thread: The Book 2007 Ragin' Cajun Baseball

  1. UL Baseball Strong start leads to 15-7 win for Ragin' Cajuns

For UL head coach Tony Robichaux, February baseball is about playing all three facets of the game well.

For Justin Robichaux, it's already a February to remember.

The younger Robichaux began his collegiate baseball career with a three-run homer in his first at-bat and finished with three hits, part of a 14-hit attack that led the Cajuns to a season-opening 15-7 win over Nicholls State Tuesday night at Moore Field.

The Cajuns (1-0) had five players with multiple hits, got good enough pitching and took advantage of five Nicholls errors - three of them in the outfield - in a workmanlike first effort.

"Our hitters did a great job of setting a tempo," said the elder Robichaux, opening his 20th collegiate season but his first with his son on the roster. "When you can hit at one through nine in the lineup, it has an effect on your opponents' pitchers."

They probably have the SID report on ragincajuns.com, which should have the attendance. Check there.

I didn't get to catch a lot of the game on 1420 (streaming... nice), but I heard when Justin jacked that big one for his first at bat as a Cajun. What a way to start your career.

I'm glad that even with being stuck over here in la villa de refinery, I can tune into Cajun baseball at the home or office.

I plan to make some weekends in Lafayette, and will make it to some complete weekend series. I have never done that before, and cannot wait.

When Justin hit it I knew it was gone. I would have screamed but I didn't want to spill my beer or drop any peanuts.

Box score shows 2040 attendance. Not bad for a mid week game in the cold.

  12. UL Baseball Coach: UL Ragin' Cajuns needs road experience

UL baseball coach Tony Robichaux says his team needs to get "weathered."

The weather forecast for San Antonio isn't that bad today through Sunday, but Robichaux's version of "weathering" has to do more with his Ragin' Cajuns going on the road than it does with the climate.

They'll get that road opportunity beginning at 5 p.m. today when the UL squad meets Texas-San Antonio (0-1) in the first of a three-game series. UL meets the Roadrunners at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in the other contests at Roadrunner Field.

"Being on the road helps this time of year," Robichaux said. "The bottom line is to get weathered, to get ready to face that. The conference tournament's not on our home field, you've got to pretty much go on the road for the NCAA's and the College World Series definitely isn't played in Lafayette."
