UL Baseball UL attendance at ULM games?

I guess I'll ask about both baseball and softball this weekend.

From the little bit I caught by radio on Friday, it sounds like there were at least as many UL as ULM fans. Were there more UL than ULM fans? What was attendance? (I'm asking these questions as well for Saturday and Sunday games too)

    God Bless

The crowd was also the seventh-largest in Warhawk Field's 29-year history and the largest ever against a non-Southeastern Conference opponent. ULM's top five crowds all came against LSU and the number six crowd came against Mississippi State.
On the Radio broadcast it sounded like half were Ragin' Cajun fans. That might be from us being use to making noise.

    Gotya Bop!!!

I wish I did not have to work these weekends because it would be 301 or greater over there.

  5. UL Baseball Ragin' Cajuns closing in on Sun Belt Baseball title

MONROE - Thanks to UL's 6-5 baseball victory over UL Monroe Saturday and a second straight upset pulled off by Arkansas-Little Rock, the Ragin' Cajuns find themselves in an enviable position in the Sun Belt Conference race.

The Cajuns improved to 17-6 in league play with Saturday's win, and now are four full games in front of Troy and New Orleans, both at 13-10. Troy fell to UALR for the second straight day, 4-1, while New Orleans rallied for a 9-7 victory over Western Kentucky.

That lead means that, even if the Cajuns lose today's series finale with ULM, a three-game home sweep of UALR next weekend would insure UL of no worse than a share of the league's regular-season title before the season's final series at New Orleans.

  6. UL Baseball Ragin' Cajuns rally from big deficit to sweep

MONROE - UL's baseball team hadn't had a lot of experience in rallying from a big, early deficit this season, but the Ragin' Cajuns learned that under fire here Sunday.

Because of that, the Cajuns find themselves knocking on the door of a second Sun Belt Conference regular-season title in three season.

The Cajuns trailed host UL Monroe 7-0 after three innings, but watched their bats come alive in a big way and got a third straight solid bullpen performance in an 11-9 victory over the Warhawks that wrapped up a three-game conference sweep.

UL (35-13, 18-6 Sun Belt) scored 11 unanswered runs before ULM made things interesting on A. J. Siggers' two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. However, Matt Pilgreen came on as the Cajuns' sixth pitcher and forced Andy Jones to ground out to end the game.

"There wasn't any panic," said senior righthander Andrew Laughter, who contributed three scoreless innings to that pen effort and picked up his first win. "The good thing about them getting all those runs early is that we still had a lot of game left. Our hitters are going to come at you the rest of the game.

  7. UL Baseball The Magic Number is 3

MONROE - Thanks to its weekend road sweep - a first this season - and Arkansas-Little Rock's surprising home sweep of previously second-place Troy, the UL baseball team has a chance to do something they haven't done in recent history.

The Cajuns can dog-pile celebrate a Sun Belt Conference regular-season title on their Moore Field home turf next weekend, with either three wins over UALR or two wins and one New Orleans loss at Troy giving UL the outright crown.

"It would mean a lot to us," said Cajun catcher Jonathan Lucroy, whose four hits including a seventh-inning homer Sunday helped UL rally from a 7-0 deficit for an 11-9 victory over UL Monroe. "It would be the first chance to do that since I've been here, so it's a big weekend for us."

"We really want to do that for our fans," said third baseman Matt Hicks, whose two-run homer in the seventh tied the game at 7-7. "They come out and do everything they can to support us, and it would be something we could give them. To have the dog-pile on the field would be great."

  11. UL Baseball Lucroy Tabbed Sun Belt Player of the Week

LOUISIANA la. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team picked up their third Player of the Week award winner of the year as junior Jonathan Lucroy earned the honor. The award was his second in his three year career.

Lucroy hit .571 overall on the weekend helping the Ragin’ Cajuns to a three-game road sweep of Louisiana-Monroe.

The junior finished the weekend 8-for-14 with four extra-base hits. Lucroy hit a homerun and a three doubles on the weekend for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Lucroy had multiple hits in every game this weekend, including four hits in the series finale. He totaled 14 bases on the weekend and added a walk for a .600 on base percentage.

Lucroy finished the weekend with four RBI and three runs scored. His solo homerun in Sunday’s come from behind victory gave the Cajuns the lead, which they would not relinquish.

  13. UL Baseball Alumni highlight UALR series

More than 80 former UL baseball players are already signed up, and more are scheduled to be at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field this weekend when the Ragin' Cajuns host their first full-scale Baseball Alumni Weekend.

The current Cajun squad will face Arkansas-Little Rock in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series beginning Friday, and the alumni players will be taking part in activities on each of the three days.

The alumni highlight of the weekend will come prior to Saturday's 2:05 p.m. contest, when all of the former players will be recognized and will take part in pre-game activities. Each will take their old positions on the field for the National Anthem.

  14. UL Baseball Ragin' Cajuns seek to clinch title

With all the success that UL's baseball program has had in recent years, one image has been notably missing.

There are tournament wins, NCAA Tournament successes and a first-ever trip to the College World Series during that period. There are also conference titles and league tournament championships.

But, not since the Cajuns joined the Sun Belt Conference in 1992 have they ever had the dog-pile to celebrate a conference regular-season title on their Moore Field home turf.

That opportunity presents itself this weekend when the Cajuns (35-13, 18-6 Sun Belt) welcome Arkansas-Little Rock (20-26, 8-15) in the final home outings of the 2007 season. The three-game series begins at 6:30 p.m. today at the "Tigue."
