TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - UL's 11th-ranked softball squad never was able to get anything going offensively against third-ranked Alabama on Saturday, and Chrissy Owens was the reason.
The Crimson Tide's pitching ace scattered six hits and struck out nine in a seven-inning shutout effort.
Alabama remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-0 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns Saturday in UA's own Easton Spring Fling tournament.
The Cajuns (20-3) had a 5-2 win against Seton Hall Saturday, after an 18-0 win over the Pirates in Friday's opening round of the double-round-robin event. UL will meet Alabama (19-0) once again at 1:30 p.m. today in the final game of the tournament.
UL only managed to get one runner to third base against Owens (9-0), who has five shutouts this year and has allowed only two runs in 54 innings.
Her Tide teammates got the only runs Owens would need in the first inning off UL starter Brittany Cuevas (11-1), who suffered her first loss of the season. Brittany Rogers led off with a single and eventually scored on Charlotte Morgan's ground ball.
