Yes it started sometime Friday. We are indeed lucky for a University this size to have radio coverage of Football, Mens and Womens Basketball, Softball and Baseball. I doubt that any other University in the Sun Belt conference has that much radio coverage.
Also, local sports talk radio every day from 7:00 A.M. to Noon and from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Saturdays Mr Bitter is on in the morning for I think three hours starting at 8:00 or 9:00 (not exactly sure about that). Big Dave and Bandit on Sunday Morning from 9:00 to Noon. Not sure if Bitter is on from 8:00 to 9:00 on Sunday now that Football season is over. Plus lots of High school basketball with big Dave and Bandit. It should be interesting to see if any out of town callers will start calling in. It ought to make the calls more diverse and interesting. Kudo's to ESPN 1420.

For those who want a quick link from here, find the button at the top that says "LINKS II" (or "MORE" for non flash compters)
On that page is a gray ESPN Ticket.
Put your mouse over it and left click it 1 time
Don't see a "links II".
17,000 students is a good size University......Originally Posted by HelmutVII
Now that we have 9 teams in the SBC for softball, do we FINALLY get an auto-bid for the conference champ? If not, then what is the magic number?
God Bless
GEAUX UL LADY CAJUN SOFTBALL!!!!!!!!!
I believe the way it works you have to have a set number in place for X number of years. So I believe with the edition of the teams to get us to 9 the years start over so that it will take a few more years to get the auto bid.
Sorry if that is a bit comfusing.
9 seems like an odd number, is that the actual minimum number of teams you must have to receive the bid? To me it would seem like 8 teams would be a more logical number.Originally Posted by Clutch0364
Granted 17,000 is a "good size" University. My point was that for a University with only 17,000 students in a relatively small media market like Lafayette, we are fortunate that we have the radio coverage of athletic events that we have. As an example, FIU has 38,000 students witha 586 Million dollar operating budget and FAU has 26,000 students with a 240 million dollar budget. Two universities that not many people around here in Louisiana knew existed before they became members of the Sun Belt conference. Given their size, I don't think they have the local or national media coverage that we do. I don't think they have a $7 million dollar athletic budget either.Originally Posted by UL Ragin Cajun
There will only be 8 teams allowed in the Conference Tournament in May.Originally Posted by Kal
The SunBelt Commissioner, W. Waters, addressed this question in the February edition of Ask The Commissioner. In 2008, the Conference Champs will receive a bid. See his interview.
