Lady Cajun softball opens season with McNeese

UL's Lady Cajun softball squad will face a home slate of at least 30 games, including appearances by Georgia, Wichita State, Baylor, Iowa State, Purdue and Houston, during a 2007 schedule announced over the weekend.

The Lady Cajuns' schedule includes six tournament appearances, two of them at home to open the season and a concluding outing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Murfreesboro, Tenn., where UL will be going for a seventh straight title.

UL opens its season in its own 21st Louisiana Classics Feb. 9-11 with Georgia, Wichita State and McNeese rounding out the field. Iowa State, Ole Miss, Purdue and Baylor come to Lamson Park one week later for the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational.

Not sure how many of you follow this, but on the message board setup they have on the DA's website, there was a thread and a post last week under the sport heading, by someone who worked for xos saying that it should be up soon and the improvements made are gonna be like nobody's ever seen, or something like that.

    At least not at UL.

This site has been down for months. We must be getting the best price in town, it is the one where they work you in around the profitable jobs.

  8. UL Softball SOFTBALL CAMP This Saturday at Alfred Lamson's Lady Cajun Park

SOFTBALL CAMP: UL's softball program will conduct its Skills and Drills winter softball clinic this Saturday and Sunday at UL's Lamson Park. The clinic will hold segments for youths age 8 through the seventh grade from 9 a.m. until noon and for eighth graders through high school from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days.

The camp will cover softball fundamentals including fielding, throwing, pitching, catching and hitting. Instructors will include UL's coaches and members of the current Cajun squad.

Cost of the two-day camp is $65 and registration is available at 482-6380 or online at studentunion@louisiana.edu. Softball-specific questions should go to 482-5167 or online at cajuns@louisiana.edu. Campers should bring gloves, bats, cleats or tennis shoes and helmets.

  15. UL Softball This Cajun Softball squad has big shoes to fill

    Eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Seven Sun Belt Conference titles, every trophy - regular season and tournament - the league has ever awarded.

An average of 51 wins per season and an 82 percent winning percentage over the past eight seasons (408-90).

It's a lot to live up to, especially when your roster has more than twice as many new faces as returnees.

And, there's the big question, one that UL softball coaches Stefni and Michael Lotief have confronted since last season ended: Who's going to pitch?

"A lot of people have asked about that," Stefni Lotief said Saturday after her team wrapped up its second week of preseason drills. "We knew that having two senior pitchers last year that we'd have that situation this year. We've got four pitchers on the staff and we'll use them wherever and however we need."

Seniors Ashley Kirchberg and Krystal Lewallen threw all but three of the 401 innings logged by UL hurlers last season. Holly Tankersley's three innings in one game last season are the extent of the staff's experience.

  16. UL Softball Re: Jan 27th Lady Cajuns Softball Fan Appreciation Day

I'm there! With my proud, die-hard, softball supporting family! I hope there is a good turnout, everyone who calls themselves a Cajun fan should be there... or else your just a poser. Bring the kids, it's fun for the whole family!

Does anyone know if they plan on changing the name on the entrance that reads LADY CAJUN PARK, I think, (at the top that you drive underneath) of the park with LAMSON FIELD, their new name?

  17. UL Softball Re: Jan 27th Lady Cajuns Softball Fan Appreciation Day

Lets just call it "LAM FIELD" for short.

Lam Field, where the Lady Cajuns thrash, strike and wallop the competition. Coming in they automatically expect to recieve a thorough beating.

. . . figuratively and only in the field of play of course

    "LAM"

I know a place we could put a BIG old plaque in honor of Mr. Lamson, we won't even have to drill new holes in the brick mortar.

I'm sure this plaque would be authorized by the University...
