  1. UL Softball Re: SUNDAY is Fan Appreciation Day

The Fan Appreciation Day for Lady Cajuns Softball, has been re-scheduled for SUNDAY, January 28, from 2PM - 5PM.

This is being done because of the weather forecast on Saturday.

All the same activities have been scheduled, scrimmage, door prizes, games for all ages, food and beverages.

Please help us with spreading the word.

Thanks for anything you can do to help us in this matter, and see you at the park on Sunday afternoon.

  2. UL Softball UL softball sloppy in intrasquad game

Sunday's Fan Day activities provided more than an opportunity for UL softball fans to meet, mingle and see the team in action. It also served as a wake-up call for the Cajun players.

The Cajuns are 12 days away from their Feb. 9 season opener, and co-head coach Michael Lotief said that the performance in Sunday's intrasquad game won't do when the games start counting.

"We didn't play anywhere near as well as we need to," Lotief said. "We didn't match the enthusiasm that our fans had. This is supposed to be like a dress rehearsal, so I hope this wakes us up a little bit."

"at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park." That's a mouthful. I think it would be more auspicious to call the place where the Lady Ragin' Cajuns play Lamson Field at Ragin' Cajun Park. As it is, the girls aren't supposed to be called Lady Cajuns anymore, just Ragin Cajuns. But, I like them playing on Lamson Field at Ragin' Cajun Park. What do you think?

The idea was to strengthen the "Ragin' Cajun" moniker by giving the name to UL's strongest sport. except, someone knowing or unknowingly is trying to kill the unique identity that is Lady Cajuns. The opposite has happened. There just isn't enough room for a newspaper headline to peak someone’s interest.

There is not enough room to include Ragin' Cajuns and the now required Women (or the subsequently now necessary Men) and also the specific sport and still include the focus of the article in the title! What has suffered is RAGIN' it is gone from most headlines. It is rare if RAGIN is included in newspaper titles.

The lack of room induced solution has been to have headlines with "Cajun Women" or "Cajun Men" and something about what happened or will happen. So instead of being the nations best Ragin' Cajuns and an equally good highly identifiable and laudable Lady Cajuns, UL's sports teams have become the "Cajun Men" and "Cajun Women."

So not only has the potent "Lady Cajuns" moniker been sidelined but Ragin' Cajuns has been marginalized as well. Not only has the ability to raise money directly with a Lady Cajuns line of clothing been killed, but in order for women to be able to identify with the Ragin' Cajuns they had to come out with pink football Jerseys.

This shortsighted everything Ragin' Cajun movement would be like Chevrolet looking at its fleet and saying 'hey the Corvette is our best known car, from now on we are going to call every car in the fleet a Corvette'

Lady Cajuns is awesome! Don't kill it just to save money on printing t-shirts.

  21. UL Softball Lady Cajuns of UL field young squad in softball opener

Today is indeed a new start for UL's softball program.

When the Ragin' Cajuns open play in their own 21st Louisiana Classics Tournament, it will be without two pitchers who combined for 50 wins and two sub-2.00 ERA's last year. It will also be without two players who combined for 51 home runs, including the unquestioned best hitter in school history.

    But some things never change.

The Cajuns, winners of 161 games over the past three seasons, take national poll rankings of 17th (ESPN.com/ USA Softball) and 19th (USA Today/NFCA) into today's noon battle with McNeese State. UL will also face Georgia, ranked 12th and 14th in those polls, at 5 p.m. in today's fourth and final game.
