A longtime Acadiana businessman and owner of several car dealerships loses his battle with cancer.
Adrian Vega was 63 years old. KATC's Chris Welty spoke with those who knew him best and has more on his legacy.
Adrian Vega was born in Havana, Cuba to a wealthy family who was stripped of everything by Fidel Castro. As refugees, his family was sponsored by First Baptist Church to move to Lafayette.
"Of course there were people who called him names and treated him with a lot of disrespect," said Mickey Comboy, President of Adrian Vega's Acadiana Dodge.
Vega overcame every challenge. He started working as a porter and quickly climbed the ladder becoming general manager of Lafayette Mac and Dependable Dodge.
In1991 he bought the closed down dodge dealership and built it to what it is today.
"He's built a huge facility. We sold 23 cars the first month new, 64 used. Now we're pushing 200 plus cars a month on a regular basis."
