  1. UL Football Magnolia Gridiron Classic MVP: JERRY BABB

JACKSON, Miss. - UL's Jerry Babb passed for a touchdown and led the Green team to a strong offensive showing in a 32-14 win over the Red team in the Magnolia Gridiron Classic.

The Green team, made up of Division I-A and lower-division all-stars, jumped out to a 25-0 lead midway through the first half on the way to its second straight win over a Red team made up of Division I-AA all-stars. The game is for players considered possible pro prospects whose teams didn't make the postseason.

Offensive Most Valuable Player Babb and Tim Brasic of Illinois passed for touchdowns in the first half, Illinois' Pierre Thomas scored on a 1-yard run and the Green team ran away with the game.

Good job Jerry Babb. It's to bad the old OC would't let you throw twenty-five yard passes.

Babb for Heisman...the campaign will live on!

I might be a little biased, but I've never seen a four-year starting quarterback run two completely different styles of offense during his time...and both done very well.

    Good Job Jerry!

I've been hearing that Desormeaux might not play QB next season. If that is true, who are the front runners for the starting QB job. I would like to see Desormeaux at QB. He did well last season when he and Babb were splitting snaps.

A Ragin’ Cajun quarterback, one not familiar on the national level, takes advantage of a postseason all-star game appearance and showcases his abilities. Sound familiar?

UL’s Jerry Babb, who wrapped up a record-setting career as a four-year starter this fall, got the chance to play in the Magnolia Gridiron Classic on Saturday in Jackson, Miss., and likely helped his chances of getting noticed by those on the “next level.”

Babb was the Offensive Most Valuable Player in the game, an all-star contest matching players from Division I-A teams (the Green team) against teams from the I-AA and lower levels (the Red team). It is designed for players who are considered possible pro prospects whose teams did not qualify for bowl games.
