Lafayette High's Malloy Moulis, a two-year member of the Louisiana Junior Cup team and one of the area's top prep golfers, is one of two commitments to the 2007 recruiting class for UL's collegiate golf squad.
Moulis, part of the Lafayette High program that already boasts Cajun junior Morgan Landry, and Luling native and Meridian (Miss.) Community College standout Dustin Petit gave verbal pledges to Cajun coach Bob Bass this week.
"I've been playing with Morgan, Michael (Smith) and B.C. (Thibeaux) my whole life," Moulis said, "so I really felt I fit in there. Morgan was our captain his last year in high school, so it'll be good to play with him again."
The UL squad already has three Lafayette products on its roster, with Landry, Smith and Thibeaux all heading into their junior seasons this spring.
Moulis was a first-team All-Parish pick as a junior last spring and won medalist honors at Sulphur's Golden Tor Invitational. He helped Lafayette High finish in the top 10 in the state Class 5A tournament and finished in the top 20 individually after placing sixth in regional play.
Outside of high school golf, Moulis was twice named to the Louisiana squad for the Louisiana-Mississippi Junior Cup Matches sponsored by the Gulf States PGA. He also qualified for the national AJGA championships last summer and placed 33rd there.
