Yeah, when I think of the amount of time, energy, and money wasted in this whole name fiasco, it makes me angry and sad. 'Cause it was all so unnecessary.

Then, as time goes by, it becomes clearer and clearer to me that our administration has no idea what branding really means or how to achieve the brand you want.

    It fits.

This was the play to make after we got screwed in '84.
Well it would have had the support of alumni and McNeese.

Don't give up. We need an advantage over the schools you mentioned, particularly those in larger markets.

It's getting harder and harder to not throw my hands in the air and just say to heck with all of this.

I feel this way because it is evident to me that the administration has no clue on how to brand itself as UL or Louisiana or that it even wants to do this.

Why should I worry about this if the administration doesn't?

    I personally don't care. I don't care about the name issue,stadium upgrades,etc.

I will always call us UL or Louisiana. I will always buy season tickets, donate what I can afford to rcaf, plan my weekends and weeknights around athletic events. But I do not expect anything special out of our administration. I think the whole "sleeping giant" theory is a pipe dream.

It's more than a pipe dream because of the wealth in this community. We just haven't been able to sustain the fire to garner enough support athletically.

Never thought I would say it, but I agree.

    The school with no name.

UL brought this on themselves. By agreeing to go by The University of Louisiana at Lafayette a lot of people thought they would be able to eventually get around the Lafayette name, but ultimately it never happen. Instead it caused more confusion among students, alumni and media. Example ESPN. Last year at for the bowl game UL was being called Lafayette College. ESPN even used Lafayette college's logo and mascot. This year not only did ESPN call UL U. LA. LA., but also called UL ULM during the broadcast.
The schools name is The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Not Louisiana or UL, sorry that's how it is. Monroe has no problem with recognition and the name ULM. The only difference is they beat SEC teams and earned that recognition. UL just wants it handed to them. If must of been a real slap in the face being called ULM the other night. B/c the few of you been fighting so hard for recognition but ULM earned it with a in verse ARK and BAMA a few years ago

The only reason there is a name problem of any sort is because "academically" the adminstration has treated the letter head rule as an every utterance rule.

If we don't have an effective Branding initiative for LOUISIANA, I would agree. Back to USL, the University of South Louisiana, and we keep our USL tradition. That is far better than Louisiana Lafayette, UL L, Lafayette, UL Lafayette and U La La. And, we separate ourselves from ULM, who would likely go have to resort to NLU (North Louisiana University) which many prefer anyway. If there will NEVER be a University of Louisiana in the UL System, why not? I'm tired of fighting a 12 year name battle with no end in sight. As was pointed out, single directional schools are more accepted now that schools like S. Florida are BCS schools. What killed us before was the double directional name, Southwestern. Here are the major schools with directional names. USL would be in good company:

    Central Florida
    Central Michigan
    East Carolina
    Eastern Michigan
    Middle Tennessee
    North Carolina
    North Texas
    Northern Illinois
    South Alabama
    South Carolina
    Southern Miss
    Southern Cal
    South Florida
    [South Louisiana]
    West Virginia
    Western Michigan
    Western Kentucky
    Southern Cal
