SID - Use of LOUISIANA

A few weeks ago, UL SID Brian McCann, said on this site that something was in the works that we would all be pleased with regarding our using LOUISIANA athletically. I couldn't find the thread, so I can't quote him directly. Just wondering what was he specifically referring to and what is the status of that? Brian, are you in a position to post any updates at this time? Any major announcement anticipated during tonight's game?

It'll be announced along with the Athletic Master Plan, and in conjunction with a $500/semester student fee for football use only.

I'm not Brian and I don't expect him to log on here today, given he's pretty busy. I do not know what specifically (I still don't think it's been determined) nor the status right now. Certainly nothing is going to happen tonight as far as policy is concerned.

Thanks for posting. That was about 6 weeks ago, so hopefully something wil be forthcoming soon. There is a lot of speculation as to what is up from UL independently going on a branding campaign as LOUISIANA to going to the UL board and seeking approval to use LOUISIANA athletically. I guess we will find out soon enough. Brian certainly seemed optimistic that it would be very favorable for us.

The only reason I mentioned it yesterday was because of what he said, and I quote:

"We are working on getting an answer to the UL, ULL, Louisiana question right now. Hopefully we will have something positive to share in the next couple of weeks.

The tide could be turning in our favor. . . stay tuned."

Now, after last night with ESPN on our turf and our commissioner attending, all we get is Louisiana Lafayette, Lafayette, UL Lafayette, U La La, and even called UL Monroe. When does all of this crap end? When does this university take a stand and when is Dr. Savoie going to put out his branding initiative that he promised over a year ago?

I knew back in 1998 that this name change would be great for Academics and horrible for Athletics.


We really have reached the point that if the school is not going to push Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, we need to push the letters(U-L-L) just like ULM.
