  8. Default Former MBB Coach Shipley Passes


    Former men's basketball coach Beryl Shipley passed away on Friday evening after a fight with cancer. A memorial service is planned for noon Friday at First Baptist Church in Lafayette. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9am until noon.

    After hearing this news, it makes me happy that Coach Marlin brought Coach Spipley back into the Cajun basketball family early this year. It would not have been right for him to leave this earth with those wounds still open. Coach Shipley was one of the key guys in putting this university on the map. Now that he is gone, maybe he will finally earn that place in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
