Who's ready for softball? Sure we may have lost a few essential players (Gomez and Kurchenburg for example) but we're a team of consistency. After all, what other UL sport has been to the NCAA regionals 17 times is it? 2007 may be a rebuilding year, but we look forward to 2008 (does the name Ashley Brignac mean anything to you?..yeah, Baylor and LSwho? wanted her!). I hope fans realize what a great program we have and support our female athletes more, they deserve it. Geaux Cajuns!

I'm looking forward to the upcoming 2007 Softball season.

If I had to describe my outlook I would call it cautiously optimistic. Cautious because I expect a slight change in philosophy (a little more small ball) I mean how do you replace a Gomez bat? You don't. Optimistic because this staff has surprised me every year since they took the helm.

In short I would say I don't expect another 50 win season (their average) but I do expect a 40 win season. Any fan base in the country would be proud if that happened.

    Then watch out in 2008

I though we had a very good pitcher coming in from Texas from the 2005 recruiting class?

Also had some hitters and a few filders coming in. We still have some sluggers abord do we not?

I never underestimate Mike and Stef, Never!!

They will evaluate their talent and have the team bring-it!!!

We will have a good season, without a doubt. That is a given every year. However, with our coaches, every season has the possibility of becoming a great season. We're capable of regional play at worst, at best, WCWS.

Here's to another outstand softball season.

    God Bless

I just checked a web site which has the teams playing in USA softball tournaments this spring. We have a Ragin Cajun Tournament in February, at Mardi Gras time. The teams listed on this site as playing in that tournament are: Purdue, Iowa State, Ole Miss and BAYLOR! This will be our second tournament of the season. So, what do you make of that? I'm kinda thinking our coaches are thinking something that we're not. This will be a BIG tournament. Will we be up to it? I really think so!

There are a lot of girls out for the team, maybe 22. There must be some gems that are going to be polished off by then. Don't forget we've got Cody Runyan, Lacey Bertucci, Karli Hubbard, Jessica Lemoine, Tara Hamilton, Kelsey Camarata and Desi Chatman in the line up. Then, Jessica might not even catch, (remember, the Sun Belt Tournament MVP?????). There is an awesome Freshman catcher/hitter, Lana Bowers. And did Holly Tankersley make her grades? (That's Holly as in a record breaking 21 HR as a freshman.) Some Red Shirts are ready to make their mark; Shari Sigur, p, Amanda Hill,p, Megan Godwin,OF, Amy Helo,3B, Brittany Hilton, OF/1 Ashley Ragan, SS AND, Melissa Verde, 2B.
    .
Melissa Verde is going to be a GREAT! Yes, we will miss Danyele and her 30 HR production. Did you remember that Lacey Bertucci is a senior and that her first at bat as a freshman was a HR, too? Lacey has something to prove.
    .
I agree, with a previous poster, we're going to play some "small ball" this year because we've got some speedsters.
    .
We do have a true freshman pitcher that was supposed to be fire, but she (Brittany Cuevas) has been hampered by shoulder problems. Hopefully, Holly, or Shari or Amanda will "come through" as the pitcher for us.
    .
The "bottom line" -> The Cajuns will be TOUGH to beat in 2007. The TEAM has enough returning leaders and, infused with a bunch of redshirts, are going to be tough. Watch and ENJOY!
