Employees at Two Acadiana Hospitals Hoping to Win Money for Miles Perret
Employees at two Acadiana hospitals are slipping on their dancing shoes and pink gloves. It's all part of a nationwide "Pink Glove Dance Competition" promoting breast cancer awareness. Although the two hospitals are competing against each other, they want to help the same cause. Sporting matching pink shirts, the staff at Acadia St. Landry hospital boogied down to some Katy Perry music, all in hopes of wining a $10,000 prize to give to Miles Perret Cancer Services.
"They've been around 10 years and they've helped 8,000 families in Acadiana," said Jeremiah Meck.
Meck was the brains behind the scenes. He says about 90 percent of the staff participated in the video. No choreography was needed, although Meck says some were hesitant at first.
"As they saw the enthusiasm in those participating, everyone joined together and created a great video," he said.
Over at Acadiana Regional, Nicola Blackwell says about 250 people slipped on their dancing shoes and wrapped around pink boas. Blackwell says they want to help Miles Perret because the center recently lost a $60,000 grant and can use the money to continue helping the community.
"They can use it for mastectomy kits, wigs, but also emotional support services," she said.
And this competition wasn't just a chance for the medical staff to let loose and have fun, but also to pay tribute to their patients.
"It shows it's not always clinical and cold. We are real people and we care about our patients," added Blackwell.
