The University of Louisiana’s recruiting efforts picked up momentum this week with the addition of two more commitments.

The Ragin’ Cajuns gained pledges from quarterback Chris Masson of Miami, Fla. and defensive end Kyle Cox of Mt. Belvieu, Texas — pushing their commitment total to five.

“I had a good visit last week and after that I knew where I wanted to go,” Masson said.

Masson, a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, finished his career at Class 6A Christopher Columbus High — the largest classification among private schools in Florida. He began his career at Miami’s Coral Park before transferring to Columbus High and leading coach Chris Merritt’s team to a 18-5 record and consecutive playoff trips.

“I think the fact that they (UL-Lafayette) got on him early got his attention,” Merritt said of Masson. “After they brought him in for the visit that kind of sealed the deal.”

The addition of Cox, a 6-4, 240-pounder helps UL-Lafayette restock its depth along the defensive line.
