Thread: Linebacker depth at UL?

  1. #1

I have a Question Linebacker depth at UL?

My son has some interest in choosing UL over several other schools but has asked me about the depth of UL's Linebacker position. Is the school deep or would he have a chance of playing there? His numbers are 6'2, 223, 4.67 (still working on speed), 410 squat, 235 bench. Plays LB, ST, TE. Any info would be appreciated....

I am not answering this question. I have a reason.

Someone needs to look up what the NCAA would say about this. I believe this would fall under contacting a parent of a potential recruit, which could be illegal in the eyes of the NCAA. I ask that no one answer this persons question until we find out the answer.

I can't remember a year when we weren't looking for help at linebacker. Historically, we do not run deep anywhere along the defensive front because of supply and demand more than anything. High school linebackers and linemen that are I-A ready are a rare commodity. I think the trick of the trade is to identify players that still have room for development.

As far as depth goes for next year and an opportunity to compete and play right away, I'll let someone else comment. Our official webpage where one might normally find this information is in the middle of a reconstruction. We have a webpage that has been designed specifically for recruiting that may be of use. http://www.ragincajunfootball.com/site.php One thing that will be favorable for your son would be the fact that we will have a new DC, so everyone will have to earn their spot on the depth chart.

I would suggest you contact the coaching staff of UL in regards to your questions. NCAA rules are fuzzy on matters such as this so better to be safe than sorry.

As long as the question is initiated by the student/athlete or his representative, and, as long as the replies are not considered to be of a recruiting nature, it's ok.

But a booster or season ticket holder who uses this board to tell the student/athlete the benefits of coming to school here is in violation.

I made the call. I got the answer.

All of that having been said....the parent's question is one that should be asked of the coach who is recruiting the player.

Thanks for the research BOP. It would have been nice to compare my post to the response from UL, but I guess it is shoot first and ask questions later around here.

I wasn't trying to start trouble or debate, just a simple question of depth. I will have my son contact the coach and hopefully get his answer. Thanks anyways....

I'm back. Given the apparent importance of this issue, I checked the FAQs for this page. The FAQs mention that parents of recruits or even recruits themselves may visit the page. The FAQs also identify some of the no-no posts that will likely be deleted. There is nothing about this issue, which is sort of a trap that I walked right into given that I don't host a radio show or work in an athletic dept and as such have limited knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules.

I suggest that posts from people representing potential student athletes be deleted immediately, with the rules for this board amended accordingly. I find it troublesome that my response has been deleted but the question that creates the potential for violation remains.
