Alabama started the season ranked #2. They've won their games and USC lost. They're ranking has more to do with where they started than anything. Notre Dame hasn't played anyone and they've moved up the rankings at warp speed. Were they even ranked to start the season?

You ND haters crack me up. Is there any other team in the country that has as polarizing an effect as ND? I distinctly remember getting crap for pulling for them during the '88 season. They won the NC and still got crap about them. Truly a case of either love 'em or hate 'em.

Not getting the ND hatred. They are a good team with a great defense and a top notch coach. Zero TD's given up by the defense over the past 4 games. Thats pretty good. By seasons end they will have played 5-6 Top25 teams with two of them against Top10 teams on the road. If they run the table they deserve to be in the title game.

I think the ND lovers and haters are both funny. There is a whole lot of reasons why ND and the national sports media created and serviced both camps. ND has gotten way too much love when they didn't deserve it... so they are hard pressed to earn football respect... even when they may deserve it. Personally, I think they are top 10 material this year.

Pre-season rankings are the worst thing about college football. We're supposed to put more stock in to how people predicted a team would look than how they've actually looked?

I don't think Notre Dame will make it to the title game and I don't think they'd beat Alabama, Florida, or Oregon but they've absolutely earned their spot as a top-5 team. Their defense is giving up 8 points per game, second only behind Alabama's defense.


This argument isn't getting anywhere because you refuse to see anything other than your anti-Notre Dame side of the story. They'll probably end up losing to either USC or Oklahoma, maybe both, so they won't be in the title game. Until then, they've been a legit team.

They have a reasonably good defense; but have really played no one who has much offensive punch at all. Plus their offense is very suspect.

If we are comparing them to Alabama; the Tide has crushed their opposition while the Irish have squeaked by.

VO, I don't think anyone was comparing ND to Alabama. An earlier poster was arguing ND "hasn't played anyone". The legitimate response was "neither has Alabama". In fact, most of the current top 10 "haven't played anyone". Alabama is #1 so far ahead of everyone else at this point... it really isn't fair to bring them into the debate. There is no other team in the top 10 that has proven a discernable difference in ability over Notre Dame. The polls are still in the mode of carryover from last year, expected ability, and current record/results. I have suspicions of several other programs in the top 10. Don't you?

------I like ND because of their fight song and that it is Catholic---I do think that they get what they don't deserve like a Nat'l Champ.When Alabama beat OSU and they beat a lower team and jumped from 4th to 1st over Alabama-----It was written--"Roses are red violets are blue --Alabama beat the hell out of Ohio State U---but Hail Mary full of grace Notre Dame is in first place"!!!!!!!
