Thread: Anticipated Red-Shirt Players or Transfers to fill vacant positions?

UL Football Anticipated Red-Shirt Players or Transfers to fill vacant positions?

Does anyone have a list of red shirted players or transfers who we are counting on as far stepping up and competing for starting positions vacated by the seniors? I've heard that Terrell Richardson is one player that is expected to garnish some starting time.

“I met with them after meeting with the seniors, and that’s a good-looking group sitting in there. There’s a lot of young players sitting in there.”

The list of returning players includes popular junior-to-be quarterback Michael Desormeaux, the heir-apparent to the departing Jerry Babb.

“Michael would be the one sitting in the driver’s seat,” Bustle answered when asked if the sophomore from Catholic High-New Iberia will be the starting quarterback next fall. “He may be playing baseball this spring, and that’s going to give John (Hundley) and Connor (Morel) a great chance to fight for that position, but one way or the other Michael has got to be on that football field.”

Overall, the Cajuns lose 18 players to graduation. Eleven of those were listed as starters (five offense, six defense) in Saturday’s loss to ULM.

We don't have any players expected to fill in those eleven vacated positions worth talking about?

You almost have to go back to their highschool production to get a good handle on Redshirts.

Does anyone know if Redshirts were eligible for the scout team? If so did any win scout team honors?

Are there any players returning, that were not on this past seasons roster, capable of starting next year?

I look for Dylan [sp???] McCoy to see significant time at SS or OLB. I also understand that there are some DL who Redshirted who are expected to make an impact.

McCoy is very talented...his high scholl numbers were impressive. I can't wait to see him hit the field.

After seeing McCoy in two a days and the scrimmage I felt he could have played this season, very talented and has a nose for the ball. Being a freshmen it was probley best to red-shirt. I think and I agree that Bustle would like to get the program to where nearly every freshman red-shirts.

We red-shirted all but two players in last year's class; a class which Bustle feels will impact the defense as much as the prior year's class impacted the offense. And when you consider that the latter included Fenroy, Chery, Wallace and Smith, that's a BIG impact.

I think that it was important to red-shirt McCoy to allow him time to adjust. He came from an excellent 3-A program [Tatum, TX], and was outstanding, but Texas 3A is about like 2A in Louisiana as far as school size, so it's a big jump to D1A football.

I would prefer to redshirt EVERYONE, and Bustle clearly agrees, as we have only removed redshirts when needs were absolutely critical.

I agree with everything that is said about redshirting. I really feel that all freshmen should redshirt no matter where they came from. But you said something, and I know it isn't that big of a deal, but it just seemed out of whack so I checked it out.

The Texas enrollment for class 3A is 415 to 949 students.
The Louisiana enrollment for class 2A is 241 to 421.

That isn't too close to the same. Class 3A football in Texas is still pretty good football in most areas. I just wanted to clear that up for my own sake.

That's what I get for not re-checking my numbers. I know several years ago that Class A in Texas topped out at about 150 and in Louisiana it went to around 250. I guess I just assumed that the discrepancy continued at least to 3A. My bad.

This is really good news...last years freshman class was sold as one of the best...will be interesting!

Any stats or info on McCoy? What about T. Richarson...is he still apart of the team?
